Very well built guitar. Neck is so sturdy it's almost impossible to get an open string bend by putting pressure on the head stock against the joint. Comfortable vintage Gibson reminiscent neck profile with jumbo frets. All of the hardware is excellent quality. The pickups sound great, but leave a little to be desired for fullness of midrange on my current setup. I've yet to run it through anything but a boss Katana, which I'm not incredibly happy with tonally so I won't comment on that yet. Frets could use some polishing, and the tone knob is quite a bit looser to manipulate than the volume. I'm not sure if this is a feature designed for that tone knob tremolo effect or a quality control issue as I don't have any Yamahas in stock nearby to compare them to. Overall for the price I'm very satisfied with the performance of this guitar and wouldn't hesitate to buy another. I know from watching Chris buck that this guitar can sound better than it does for me. Hopefully I'll be picking up either a THX or one of the new helix stomp boxes soon. I really do think it's more my amplifier than the pickups. My biggest issue, and why I didn't give it 5 stars is that the frets are gritty and should have been polished better from the factory. But with a superb neck fit, flawless binding, great factory paint finish, and everything else this guitar has going for it for under 700 dollars I don't think you can beat it. I would choose this guitar over a Gibson twice the price any day. Where this guitar shines is in its versatility. You can get anything from twangy single cool, to bassy jazz and everything in between. It works just as well for hard rock and even some metal as it does for soulful dynamic blues licks. As long as you can deal with the 60s cycle hum, it responds beautifully to high gain, and the clarity of the individual notes give this guitar a unique high gain tone.
