While not being particularly experienced with pianos or keyboards, I have quite a bit of fun playing this. Although it does not have the full 88 keys it's not a huge deal since you can shift octaves. I would recommend this keyboard for beginners and those tryingbto get into playing piano.

Purchased as a gift for a fellow-musician-friend. He found it completely satisfactory. Sam Ash had a returned product for sale at a much lower price than comparable units from other retailers. Plus, Sam Ash threw in the one-year-warranty that would come with a new product. I couldn't resist! My only complaint is that the power adapter does not come with this unit; but, that is not the fault of Sam Ash.

For a beginner player this piano is perfect , it has a professional sound and the keys glide like butter on bread . I am happy with this product cause it has my sons attention , that's half the battle in getting a new player interested . Not to bad for a first piano .

I needed a keyboard/MIDI controller and this was an excellent choice. built in speakers, uses 6AA batteries not C or D batteries like the keyboards of yore. It works perfectly with my iPad apps (Magellan, iSyntronik, Symphonic, iFretless Sax, Brass, Galileo (Hammond B3 organ)). via camera adapter cable. I'd recommend this to a friend who wants to keep it simple, and who will be happy with just the basic Acoustic piano, electric piano,Hammond and pipe organs, harpsichord, vibraphone, strings. No wheels to do pitch bending, but the option to use either AC or DC and built in speakers are a better trade off.

Anyone other than a beginner or music teachers looking for pianos for their classroom - look elsewhere. While this is a simple model for the beginner, the NP-12 cannot be edited with settings saved. Some issues with the Grand Piano 1 - octave C3 (from middle C) - not very touch sensitive.Other beginner keyboards in this same price category have better pianos that can be edited and saved to a bank - the Casio CTK 6250 for one. But yes, the manual is more complicated and one must learn how to create these edited sounds - and store them. If you are an intermediate / advanced pianist looking for that cheaper yet better keyboard - the very best for your buck is the Casio 7000 or newer model 7200. Take your time studying the manual - and see why this is an incredible keyboard. But if you are new to piano - and new to music and technology - the NP-12 is a good choice to start with.

The Yamaha NP12 is the upgraded version of the previous NP11. This time, there is iOS compatibility with a separately sold cable to record ideas. Also, the speakers have improved for even better sound in such a small form factor. If you are looking for a practice keyboard without distractions of bells and whistles, and just want a few really good sounds, this is the unit for you. The keys are responsive and the sounds are good. Great as a practice piece.
