Very knowledgeable.
My wife and I needed help picking a synth out for our voracious musician. The Sam Ash staff was really knowledgeable and patient. We paid a little more but it was worth it for the help...

I have exchanged the MX-61 for a Roland Juno-DS 61. The determining factor for me was the lack of a sequencer in the Yamaha. Comparatively, my experience so far is that the Yamaha provided a lot of accompaniment options that were similar to their PSR keyboards; the Roland appears to expect you to play it yourself or program the sequencer. The sound quality was similar between the two, although the "super layer" function in the Roland may have a slight edge. Also the Roland provides the option to upload new sounds, which does not appear to be available in the Yamaha. Lastly, I fully expected the Yamaha keyboard to be superior in feel, but, shockingly I thought the key action on the Roland is better. For these reasons, I think there is a lot of room for improvement for the MX61.

The keyboard is alright, wasn't up to par with the money I spent. But the sound banks are good being Motif inspired.

I had a $1600 Yamaha Mo8 before this. 88 weighted keys and amazing sounds but 76 pounds! The MX61 has all of the best sounds updated and many more, 61 synth action keys but easy access octave shift buttons. 10 pounds!!! Great performance sounds, easy layering, easy splitting, great on the fly parameter editing. I am recommending it to others!

I just purchased this keyboard, after having the MX88, which has 88 keys, so I knew the great sounds it has. I use it for band use. Had had Yamaha keyboards for over 45 years. I also own a digital piano by Yamaha. This keyboard has every conceivable sound anybody could want or need. Can't believe how light it is. Storing up to 128 sounds is virtually a 2 or 3 step process. Great for just playing by myself, using the already stored "performances" (combination of sounds). The price is good, and of course it is dependable. I am very happy with it.

My son wants to create his own music. He plays a Yamaha MX 88 on the jr. worship team at church and wanted his own for home. He loves this. We weren't aware that you had to have the headphones or speakers when we bought it. We went out and picked up the headphones and all has been great.
