It's a Travel Guitar

I bought this guitar for travel, I wanted a guitar for scales and practice on the road. I was surprised at how good it actually sounds, sound quality not even making my list of requirements. You must have a strap to play this guitar, it is impossible for me to play it without one, it doesn't position in my lap. It was exactly what I wanted.

Nice for travel.

I bought this at the Tampa store for a trip to Hawaii. They didn't want to sell it to me because the much bigger GS mini Taylor sounds better ... blah blah blah. I bought it anyways. Have been playing it daily on the beach, in the mountains, on the porch, in the rain forest, etc. I play in several tunings and it handles it fine. Intonation is fine. I play it with the strap, because it is too small to hold. The top has room for planting yout pinky (unlike Martin's backpacker). With case it weighs 5 lbs and fits in plane overhead compartments and in the packed jeep (think family) we're renting with no problem. A full size or 3/4 size guitar would be a pain to cart all over on the trip. And in the past, I have traveled all over the world without a guitar because it's a pain to haul around. No more! This little Rover is going with me on future trips. For [$] it is a steal. It doesn't sound as nice as my full size Martins, Taylor or Gibson, but it travels extremely well.

Washburn Rover

As an intermediate hobbyist guitar player, this is the eighth guitar I have owned over the past 35+ years. I currently own three guitars; an electric, an acoustic electric and most recently this Washburn Rover travel guitar. I purchased this Rover for an upcoming trip. I was not willing to put my favorite guitar in the cargo hold of an airplane... The whole package includes the travel size guitar, strung with D'Addario EXP strings; a hard foam lined cordura case with molded plush interior and backpack straps, extra bridge with shims, truss rod wrench, picks, strap and CD. Out of the box, I tweaked the truss rod just a bit to make the fretboard arrow straight. The D'Addario strings tuned up quickly and stay in tune commendably. The action is pretty good all along the length of the frets, but I did shave a bit off the bridge to drop the action a bit more. The fit of the guitar is overall very good and solid. The finish is not great - but for the price is not a surprise. I was able to overcome this shortcoming with four coats of paste wax which gave the neck the same feel and speed of a higher priced guitar. The case is rock solid and worth at least half the price of the total package. The sound of the guitar for its size is surprising; the tone is impressive. Some reviews call the tone as "ukulele-ish". That can be true somewhat while playing the guitar, but not so much when being in front of the guitar. I showed this Rover to a very musically talented friend of mine and he had this thing singing sweetly. The full scale neck and accessibility to the whole fretboard is awesome. Harmonics are very good also. As stated in most of the reviews, the strap stinks; It really STINKS. The solution - just throw it away... It took less than an hour to end up triple bagged in plastic in the garbage. I ended up using the strap from my Wii Guitar Hero guitar which is a perfect fit. Beyond that, you can pick up a cheap strap for under ten dollars anywhere. For the price, this is hard to beat; very playable, decent sound and overall a good package. I could buy four of these for what I have invested in another guitar. I would not feel crushed if this was "crushed" by the airlines. Nobody should expect to perform onstage with this one. If you own a Martin, Guild or an American Gibson, you are truly fortunate; this might not be the one for you... If you want a value priced travel guitar, give this one serious consideration.
