...or basses that are trying to sound like Fenders (or worse, trying really hard to NOT sound like a Fender and sound more like a diesel tractor starting up) you need something different that has it's own voice. Some Warwicks with ash bodies don't have the same aggressiveness, but the Thumb with bubinga body and ovangkol neck is simply a tone monster unlike anything else you've heard. It doesn't have to try to be different, it simply is different. Controls are smooth, fit and finish are excellent and playability is superb. The downsides are that passive playing w/o battery is possible, but volume suffers greatly, and bubinga is a very dense wood, so your diesel tractor might actually weigh less.
