Embracing many of the features unique to the Builders Edition series, the guitar captures the classic tone combination of rosewood back and sides with Lutz spruce top, and the results are stunning.

Unique Soundport Cutaway
Crafted to resemble a partial Florentine cutaway, the design keeps the guitar’s full back intact while still allowing easy access to the high-register frets. The additional soundhole adds a truly new dimension of acoustic sound, creating a wide-angle sound that would fit as well in a classical orchestra as it would a rock band or a fingerstyle solo act.

Classic Tone Combination of Rosewood Back and Sides with Lutz Spruce Top
Lutz spruce is a hybrid of Sitka and white spruce, capturing the tonal response of Adirondack spruce, for greater sonic headroom. Indian Rosewood delivers strong bass response and crisp high end with a slightly scooped mid-range voice. This incredible Taylor 816ce Builders Edition represents a body larger than the grand auditorium yet boasts a 24 7/8” scale length with light gauge strings. The sonic architecture of the 816ce evokes a fuller voice and creates a broader frequency dispersion that creates an extended sustain and projection.

This bracing system also offers exceptional intonation across the entire fretboard along with unparalleled harmonic agreement and consistency between notes.

Taylor Expression System 2 Electronics
The 816ce Builder’s Edition features another Taylor forte - electronics. The Expression System 2 was designed so all the lovely acoustic sound Taylor guitars create could be amplified. Located behind the saddle, the ES2 pickup has three distinctively positioned sensors to catch the dynamic sound range. The 816ce Builder’s Edition also has an onboard preamp with volume, bass, and treble controls, so you can find the sonic expression you're seeking.
