The Tascam Model 16 is primarily an analog mixer that not only sounds great in live sound situations, but also includes an integrated MULTI-TRACK recorder onboard (records to standard SD cards). The Model 16 can also connect to a computer via USB for use as a "front end" to a DAW, or to be used as a summing mixer when your project is ready for mix-down. Either way, the Model 16 adds a warmth and depth that can only be found in a high-quality analog mixer. The Model 16 can be rack mounted (rack kit sold separately), and features 12 HDDA mic pres along with line level inputs and even a Bluetooth enabled channel. In short, you won’t find a more versatile mixer on the market. If you want to record great sounding "board tapes" of your band, you have come to the right place, but the Model 16 is just as at home in the studio if you are looking for simple, analog operation and are tired of paging through menus.

Pristine Audio Quality
Mic inputs 1 through 8 deliver pristine audio quality, featuring Tascam's ultra-HDDA (High-Definition Discrete Amplifier) technology for pure, transparent natural tone with ultra-low noise.

Professional Channel Strip Control Features
A tactical Gain knob tops each channel for precise tweaking of input levels. A push-button Low-Cut filter and three-position input selector (Live/PC/MTR) facilitate quick and precise control of input source signals. A 1-knob inline compressor is available on inputs 1-8 as is a mid-range sweep-able 3-band EQ.

Maximum Audio Routing Possibilities and Monitoring
3 Aux bus and PFL listen round out the model 16's pro-level signal path routing options. A Sub bus provides an additional stereo lineout source to the master send section. 3 Aux outs let you route the audio signal for the stage monitoring or to external gear such as outboard effects, signal processors or headphone mixes. And the Footswitch control jack provides additional monitoring and control features.

Powerful Internal 16-Track Multi-Track Digital Recorder
The Model 16's MTR section features a powerful internal 16-track multi-track recorder capturing 14 inputs and 2 main mix simultaneous tracks of audio to an internal SD card in pristine 24-bit/48 kHz quality. Record anything from live performance to rehearsals, worship events, spoken word, and meetings, as well as perform overdubs and punch-in/out quickly and easily. Recorded tracks can be immediately mixed, mastered or exported to a computer for further editing, formatting, and publishing.

High-Quality Internal Audio Interface
An internal 16 input/14 output USB audio interface captures audio at a 24-bit/48 kHz sampling rate for recording or playing back from an external DAW. The Tascam USB driver delivers the minimum size of the audio buffer which can be set to as low as 4 samples, resulting in extremely low latency and the highest level of efficiency when recording audio.

Versatile Input Capability
Using the channel mode switch, each channel can select the input source as needed. This allows a super flexible input configuration to be selected where some inputs can be live, other inputs can play tracks from the internal MTR, while other inputs can play tracks from a computer via USB, all simultaneously.

16 Editable Multi-Track Effects
The Model 16's versatile effects section offers 16 editable and foot-controllable multi-effects, including reverb, delay, chorus, and flange.

4-Band Master EQ

The top of the line. Been working on new material that would not be possible with out a multitrack recorder. Easy-to-use still learning how to use effects and compression since phantom power is either on all xlr tracks or none. I use an adapter to phantom power two Condenser and simultaneous use a dynamic mic. I wish you were given a selection of phantom power channels but it not that big of a deal just more cables...

Works for me!

As an old school singer/songwriter, I'd grown tired of wrestling with recording to a computer via an interface and wanted a quicker, more intuitive and, yes, old fashioned way of getting my songs recorded. This unit fits the bill for me. I like knobs and faders as opposed to a mouse, and scrolling through screens is kept to a bare minimum with the Model 16. The machine has its quirks, mostly due to being a mixer first and a recorder second, but nothing I can't get used to. Sound quality is very good, and 2 channels have insert points if you wish to use an outboard preamp or effects. And if you want to use it as a computer interface, it does that too (haven't tried that yet). It has its limitations, but for an old geezer like me it feels natural and delivers just what I need.
