The Story Of Music Row: 48th Street

Sam Ash Music has been serving New York City musicians since 1924 when we opened our very first location in Brooklyn. We jumped into the Manhattan music scene on the legendary “Music Row” where everyone from Jimi Hendrix to Eric Clapton to the Beatles bought their gear. Pete Townsend smashed a lot of guitars on stage that he bought there. Over the years we became the focal point of 48th Street, occupying 7 store fronts at the height of our popularity. But like the times, the music industry changed and as always we changed with it.

Welcome to 34th Street: Our New Mega store

In 2013 we gave up the Music Row locations and combined them into one mega store on 34th Street in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, directly across the street from the World’s Most Famous Arena (Madison Square Garden). No visit to New York City is complete for musicians without stopping into Sam Ash 34th St where you might run into bass amplifier pioneer Larry Hartke in our Hartke Bass lounge. You can see a clinic with Paul Reed Smith, Victor Wooten and so many more.
