A three year veteran to our NYC store, Adam Nolan hails from Hainsport, New Jersey and currently lives in Brooklyn, New York. His favorite styles of music are Psychedelic, Jazz and Rock.
What artist/inspired you to pursue music?
It was more so a collection of moments throughout my life that inspired me to become a musician. Whether it was a concert or just practicing by myself, music has always had the amazing ability to put me into a state of contentment. Music is something that I have grown to have the utmost respect for, it is truly a privilege and honor to create with sound.
What’s your musical background?
Music has always been a part of my life in one way or another and at an early age I would have considered myself an instrumentalist. However, it wasn’t until I studied at the Atlanta Institute of Music and Media (AIMM) that the doors of musical theoretics flew open and made me into a musician. Prior to studying at AIMM I had been a member of multiple bands which varied in their genres, anything from Pop-Punk to “Experimental Post Hard-Core” as we liked to call it. Post AIMM my primary focus has been in Jazz composition and how it can be applied to pretty much any genre to make it more interesting.
What would you say is unique about you musically?
There isn’t much to be said about me that makes me unique really, we all share so much with each other especially musicians that very few are “unique” in its purest understanding. That being said there are defining characteristics and qualities that make up my persona. For example I advocate existentialism, meditation, inner and outer thought, etc.. Music and the inner world seem to be almost inseparable and the ultimate goal of my musical creations is to help people realize these “inner worlds”.
How are you involved in your local music scene?
I moved to Brooklyn in May of 2019, since then I have been exposed to a myriad of talented artists, musicians, visual artists, poets you name it, and they are all so eager to create and collaborate. Since then, I have been lucky enough to sit in on gigs as a Keyboard player as well as a guitarist. Outside of live performance I found that I enjoy scoring films of all kinds, and creating soundscapes. There are a number of tools that I have been so generously gifted by the Universe to create, such as the ROLI Song Maker kit. ROLI was generous enough to invite me to their office in Brooklyn where we shared ideas for content and how we can form a symbiotic relationship to influence creativity and cultivate inspiration for everyone, at home here in Brooklyn and abroad.
What are your personal goals as a musician?
As previously mentioned, the goal of my music is to help, those who seek it, inner worlds. So much of our world is without, and the world within can be easily forgotten. The majority of this work will be somewhat akin to “planting seeds” as they need time to be nourished and grow. Nevertheless, it is my purpose as a musician and also my purpose in life to be a way-shower to these caverns within.
Tell us about some of your latest projects.
For the last couple years I have been writing primarily guitar-based material to be released in the form of an album accompanied by animated visuals as well as different types of videography. The writing process extended from the time I spent at AIMM through the months I spent in Peru studying shamanic philosophy. Finally I have everything in place to release a single from the album in early November, the full album to follow at the beginning of the new year in 2020.
