The Shure Beta 52®A is a high output dynamic microphone with a tailored frequency response designed specifically for kick drums and other bass instruments. It provides superb attack and "punch", and delivers studio quality sound even at extremely high sound pressure levels.

The Beta 52A features a modified supercardioid pattern throughout its frequency range to insure high gain-before-feedback and excellent rejection of unwanted sound. A built in dynamic locking stand adapter with an integral XLR connector simplifies installation, particularly if the microphone is to be placed inside a kick drum.

The stand adapter keeps the microphone position fixed and resists slipping, even when subjected to sharp blows and strong vibrations. A hardened steel mesh grille protects the Beta 52A from the abuse and wear associated with touring.

Using with electric bass

I use this miking a Gallien-Krueger 212 NEO II cab and use a GK 550 fusion amp. I place the mic about 2 inches in front of the edge of the 12" speaker. Good lows, a little less mids, and not much highs that I can hear. I run through a sub with 2 15" so my FOH guy says it's OK for that ( 40 - 200 Hz). My issue is my amp is bi-amped internally, so I can either mic the lows, or mic the mids/highs. I can't mike both unless I use two mics. So I still have to run a DI from the amp into the house for the mids and highs, a little more work for him. If you know the specs for your bass amp check out the DI (if you have one) first. You may not need this. Or you may need two. If you do not have a DI then this will put you into the subs. If you play jazz or do slapping, this may not be the best mic for those. Still satisfied but I have a good FOH guy who makes it work.

Kick drum mic that kics

Whether you are using this mic for stage or studio, you will love the clear, punchy sound this mic delivers. A kick drum with a Beta 52A in front of it sounds ten times better than anything I have heard. There is definitely a good reason you see a lot of professional artists using this mic for their recording and live setups. It has handled high SPL's and many diverse situations better than any other kick drum mic I have ever tried out.
