The Samson Carbon 49 USB MIDI Controller is a compact, lightweight, and easy-to-use MIDI controller suitable for both performance and studio use. Its broad features and simple design make it an ideal tool for both seasoned musicians and those new to MIDI controllers. Carbon 49 boasts 49 semi-weighted, velocity-sensitive keys that register the dynamics of the performance, as well as buttons for transposing (key change) and octave shifting. The Pitch Bend and Modulation wheels offer an additional level of control that makes the Samson Carbon 49 a real winner.

The Samson Carbon 49 also features an assignable data encoder and volume slider that provides additional control over audio editing software like the included Native Instrument Komplete Elements. The Shift key can be used to adjust up to 14 control parameters for even more control while editing.

The Samson Carbon 49 has a built-in 3-digit, 7-segment LED display, as well as a MIDI output, sustain pedal input and USB port.

Designed with the iPad in mind, the Samson Carbon 49 features an integrated iPad stand that enables the keyboard to be easily used to control MIDI apps on the iPad via Apple’s Camera Connection Kit. And, the Carbon 49 can even be directly powered by the iPad.

The Samson Carbon 49 USB MIDI controller does not rely on batteries, nor does it require to be plugged into a power outlet; all power is driven from the USB connection. This means it can be powered by the iPad by using the USB to 30 pin adapter found in the iPad Camera Connection Kit for the older iPads and in the Lightning to USB Camera Adapter for later generation iPads and the iPad mini. You will need an app such as Garage Band running on your iPad to accept the input from the controller to drive the sound. There are a total of 49 full sized keys that are velocity sensitive. There are buttons to change the octave if you need a higher or lower range, found above the pitch and modulation wheels. This allows for the full octave range found in a full sized keyboard or piano. Overall, the Carbon 49 USB MIDI controller from Samson Technologies delivers a simple solution for those looking to turn their iPad or iPad mini into a self powered musical instrument for home use, studio use, and on-the-go use. The carbon 49 is one of the most basic simplistic midi controllers that Samson has released, and thats not a bad thing. This will allow users to not get overwhelmed by extra knobs and buttons, and really focus on the music they are trying to create. Also designed with the iPad in mind, the Carbon features an integrated iPad stand that enables the keyboard to be easily used to control MIDI apps on the iPad via Apple's Camera Connection Kit and the ipad can power the carbon as well. This controller is simple and affordable. I really like the slot for your Ipad, that's convenient. The keys are semi-weighted so it feels like you're playing an instrument as opposed to a controller. Great for Ipad
