Having sold off my large collection of Mics and 10 channel drum Mic snake I was looking for a more elegant solution to Mic a much smaller kit. Venues with stages big enough to handle big rock kits had all but disappeared in my area and club owners lost interest in loud heavy rock acts in favor of smaller, quieter outfits. You evolve or spend a lot of time in your garage. Traditional Mic placement required at least 7 Mics on a 4 piece kit. Which required my own mixer to supplement our smaller PA. I know I could get by with fewer Mics but I just couldn't get the balance and tone I was looking for. I stumbled onto this package while researching small hi hats on the Sabian Site. It seemed too good to be true. Mic an entire 5 piece kit with 3 Mics. The kit comes with a dynamic kick mic and 2 condenser overheads that all connect to a dedicated drum mixer. There's 3 mic inputs optimized to the kick and the left and right overheads, an aux in to connect an audio player and a SD recorder to capture the performance or practice session. The recorder is a nice touch for practicing along with backing tracks and being able to listen and analyze the performance. It's not a studio quality recording but it beats setting up a portable recorder or single Mic capture into an audio interface. What shocked me was how effective this system is for recording and live performances. Just set up the Mics, dial in your sound on the drum mixer, output mono or stereo from the mixer to your Interface or PA and play. The Mic positioning setup is critical. Follow the instructions and utilize the included calibration cord to properly place the Mics. I've seen YouTube videos of this product where they criticize the system and the Mics are badly set. Correctly placed the sound is clean, crisp and balanced with solid low punch and clear high end capture from the overheads. Construction of components is top notch and the whole system feels solid and tight. You will need 3 stands and 3 XLR Cables to use.
