In the studio and on stage, your trusty acoustic sax is always by your side. But if you work across a range of musical genres, imagine how useful it would be to own a single wind instrument that delivers every sound that’s required. The Roland Aerophone AE-10 is a trailblazing digital wind instrument that fuses traditional sax fingering with the flexible onboard tones you need.

Seasoned players will feel instantly at home with the familiar saxophone fingering system, responsive SuperNATURAL sounds, and a breath sensor that reacts like your favorite acoustic horn. The large sound selection faithfully recreates saxophone models from soprano to baritone, plus wind instruments like clarinet and trumpet, string instruments, and even synths.

With built-in speakers, battery power capability, and DAW connectivity, the Roland Aerophone AE-10 is the versatile, play-anywhere choice that supports you in every musical scenario.

Start Playing Immediately w/Traditional Sax Fingering & Responsive Breath Sensor
You’ve worked hard to nail your sax technique, but most digital horns make you master a new fingering system, which can be a major setback. With the Roland Aerophone AE-10, it’s a smooth transition, thanks to a layout that’s similar to your favorite acoustic sax—right down to the left-hand octave key. Plus, the AE-10 has a sensitive mouthpiece-mounted breath sensor that also functions as a bite sensor, allowing expressive techniques like vibrato and pitch. Even beginners will be able to enjoy playing the various onboard sounds straight away.

All the Saxophone Sounds You Need in One Instrument
Nothing beats the sound of your favorite acoustic sax, but sometimes its tone might not be quite right for the job at hand. Whatever scenario you’re playing in, the Roland Aerophone AE-10 has the onboard digital sax sounds you need. Choose from alto, tenor, soprano, and baritone sax types that all respond just like their acoustic counterparts to your playing dynamics and articulation, thanks to Roland’s advanced SuperNATURAL modeling technology. Alongside individual sounds, you can pull off a seamless performance with the Full Range feature, automatically switching between sax types by key range.

A Variety of Realistic Acoustic Instruments and Roland’s Award-Winning Synths
There’s nothing worse than a studio session grinding to a halt because you need an instrument that you haven’t brought along. That won’t happen with the Roland Aerophone AE-10, which gives you a variety of additional acoustic instrument sounds like clarinet, flute, oboe, trumpet, violin, and more, all powered by Roland’s SuperNATURAL technology to faithfully match the behavior of the originals.

Even ethnic instruments like shakuhachi and erhu are on hand, offering authentic pitch and tonal fluctuations that echo their acoustic counterparts. Once you’ve tried the individual sounds, you can create one-man ensembles by layering multiple wind instrument sounds with the Brass Section setting.

The AE-10 is also packed with a selection of the latest synth sounds that are specially tailored for wind instrument performance with fully optimized breath control.

Play Anytime and Anywhere with Onboard Speakers, Battery Power, and Headphones
Wherever and whenever you play, the portable and lightweight Roland Aerophone AE-10 is ready. Six AA batteries provide mobile power, and onboard monitor speakers deliver comfortable sound for intimate performing situations. You also have the ability to directly connect to a PA or amp for broader coverage, eliminating the need to use a mic.

When you need to cover large instruments like tuba and bassoon, the battery-powered Roland CUBE Street EX is a great companion, giving you big sound in a portable package. Playing sessions are even more fun when you connect to your smartphone via the Aerophone AE-10’s stereo mini jack and jam along with favorite songs. And thanks to the headphones option, you can play around the clock without disturbing family members and neighbors.

Breath Control Brings Unique Expressive Possibilities to Your Music Productions
While the Roland Aerophone AE-10 is a powerful standalone instrument, it also lets you get creative with external gear. You can connect to your computer via USB to play soft synths and external MIDI sound modules through your DAW, with breath control providing a world of unique expression not possible with keyboard synthesizers.

Roland Aerophone AE10 - Not for me

2

As a seasoned saxophonist the octave key mechanism design, designed to provide a 5 octave range, made the instrument too awkward for my purposes. I would need a conventional single lever octave key setup. It also had too many useless sounds. Give me 30 really useful sounds and a conventional octave key and I'll buy it.

Absolutely LOVE this instrument. It works great for my DAW and comes in handy when I'm pracitcing late at night. I love that the fingerings work just like an acoustic sax, even the mouthpiece set up feels just like my regular mouthpieces I use for my acoustic sax!

What an Awesome Instrument ...

Hello fellow and future musicians, I normally don't complete reviews but, felt compelled to do so with the Aerophone. I played Tenor Sax and later Alto back in the mid-seventies while in middle school and high school. Sam Ash of (New York City) was the go-to store for musicians even back then. As all brass & wind instrument players know the hardest task is being able to practice and play without disturbing others. In middle school & high school, I was fortunate enough to have parents that encouraged practice. I also was in a neighborhood band. Then I went into the military (6-years) and my playing stopped. In the years since I have always thought and longed to be able to play again. But, as we all know a saxophone is not a quiet instrument. The last (2) saxophones I owned I donated to a church due to not being able to play anymore as I currently reside in a condo. That brings me to the Aerophone AE-10. The instrument is awesome and has me feeling like a child with a new toy. It does not matter now, day, afternoon, or late nights you can practice. I recommend to invest in a good pair of over the ear headsets so you can immerse yourself in playing. The beauty of the Aerophone is that it will have you sampling and playing other instruments also. I called a couple of my childhood musician buddies and had them listen to a few lines over the phone on the Aerophone without telling what I had and they thought I had gotten another saxophone. I would like to give a (Great Big Shout-Out) to Sam Ash Music of Margate, Florida. and Mrs. C. Marshall in the horn section & Studio Breaks in Headsets & Audio. Yes, I could have gone to another music store but, I consider Sam Ash Music to be part of my extended family and their service is awesome. I know in the very near future I will be buying another Alto & Soprano Sax. I have my eyes on the Cannonball models :) Let the music play...... D.P. Jr. "Chance Favors Only the Prepared Mind." Roland to great music!

The Roland AE-10 is one of the most innovative instruments on the market right now. It takes the same fingering from a saxophone and incorporates a midi controller. It has a built in speaker as well so its perfect for playing while on the road. The artificial reed on the mouthpiece is awesome and allows for bite-sensitive vibrato and tone. The tone of this instrument through its built-in speaker leaves a little to be desired due to the fact that it sounds quite artificial, however, the 62 different tones you can make, make up for it. Overall, a great, unique, electronic instrument!
