First let me say that as a pro musician who makes his living entirely by playing and teaching the guitar, I looked at the Rainsong guitar as almost a messianic product. After 200 years of making guitars out of wood, you hafta hope there's be something new that comes along and does it BETTER! I hoped that Rainsong would be it. The good news is: They almost ARE! Where they succeed: TONE Where they fail: FEEL There is just no beating the delicious, harmonic-rich Rainsong sound! It is luscious! Rippling with harmonic overtones that are crushed by the braces on wood guitars! The sound that emanates from newer Rainsongs approaches the holy grail of acoustic guitar tone, let me tell you! But the neck... the feel... the ACTION is absolutely HORRENDOUS!!!!! They really have a long way to go on this point. Especially for the money they charge! There are MANY guitars that PLAY MILES BETTER than Rainsong! In the under $2000 range there are Taylors, Gibsons, Martins, Takamines, Breedloves and many others that play EASIER, and feel more COMFORTABLE than the nightmarish, avuncular, harsh, sharp, square-ish feel of a Rainsong N2 neck guitar. I'm sorry, but for two thousand dollars I want a guitar to feel HEAVENLY when I play it! That means low action, an easy neck, and comfort! Rainsong N2 necks offer NONE OF THE ABOVE! No binding, no rolled edges, and get this: out of the box the action on my H-WS1000N2 was over 1/2 an inch high at the 12th fret!!!!!!!! The tone was GORGEOUS!!!!!! The feel was hell on earth! I was so sad and disappointed! I wanted to love this guitar so badly! But it was nearly IMPOSSIBLE to play! ANY other guitar in this price range will play better than a Rainsong. It may not sound as good, but who cares? For me? Comfort is everything in a guitar. And the Rainsong is the LEAST COMFORTABLE guitar I have EVER played!!!!!!!! It plays like one of those cheap, garbage-bucket APPLAUSE guitars from the 1980's! Except not as good! I am a professional musician. I am 54 years old. I gig 5 times a week every week. I am not a jerk, I have no axe to grind. But The people at Rainsong do not have a CLUE what a comfy neck feels like! It is a shame!!!!! Because they have TONE down pat!!!!! Let's hope for better necks in the future from this company. But HALF INCH HIGH ACTION is a bit much if you ask me!!!!! Plus, nasty, sharp edges with no binding, in a price range filled with lovely, comfortable bound necks is a non-starter in my humble opinion. If they could fix this problem, and I hope they do, I would be a Rainsong fanatic forever! Because the sweet, delicious, ringing tone this guitar produces is what we are ALL searching for! Better than wood! I called for an R/A to send mine back and now I'm gonna hafta settle for a Gibson or a Taylor. But believe me - I will miss the Rainsong tone no matter what I play. But you see, that's just it: It ought to be PLAY to finger a guitar, not agony!
