It can always be tough as a musician on a budget to get your music heard. Many of us want to be able to record and gig with our own setups to save money over a studio and paying a live sound engineer/renting a PA. Well until recently you almost had to get a strictly live mixer setup or a strictly recording based setup to serve both of these tasks on a budget and to record a show decently was a near impossible feat on a budget. Sure many lower cost mixers integrate a USB output to send to your computer but the trouble is that many of them only send the stereo mix out giving you no control in recording software so the mix in the room might sound great but sound awful on a recording. Conversely if you got an audio interface to record it was difficult to use in a live context as routing to mains/monitors and generating the mix was all done thru a computer via software. Presonus has created the perfect solution with their new line of StudioLive AR Hybrid mixers. You get the great sound Presonus has become known for, mic and DI inputs to handle your instruments and mics, an SD recorder, USB 2 output so you can finally multi track with the mixer into your computer, Bluetooth to stream music wirelessly, digital effects to sweeten your performances, and most importantly an easy to use highly powerful recording program (Presonus Studio One, my favorite recording program out). It seems Presonus have thought of everything one could want in this type of mixer/interface and somehow managed to pack it in a price most can afford. Can't recommend it enough check it out! Works great for live sound, recording, or recording shows.
