Just the right size
The AudioBox USB 96’s two front-panel combo mic/instrument inputs make it ideal for singer/songwriters, podcasters, and guitar or guitar-bass collaborations. Simply connect a couple of mics and you have an easy-to-use stereo recording system. A mix control lets you control the level between the input signal and computer playback, without hearing annoying delays. You also get a pair of balanced line-level outputs, an ultra-loud, crystal-clear headphone out, plus MIDI I/O, so you can connect your favorite synth or MIDI controller. The result is a simple, affordable, mobile recording solution.

Simply drop it in your laptop bag or slap it on a tabletop.

Improvement over previous device

I purchased this interface to replace my departed Alesis i02. It's similar in design but pre amps are an upgrade. I also like the quarter inch/balanced hybid inputs. I am using it in my home studio and it seems rugged enough for the long run.

Great for practicing guitar and learning how to use a DAW

I bought this because my loop pedal didn't allow me to save loops once I created them, so I wanted a way to connect to my computer. At first, I connected my guitar (MIM strat) > loop pedal > amp (Fender Mustang I v2) > amp headphone out to the audiobox instrument input. With the audiobox connected to my computer (HP laptop, Windows 10), I then used the Studio One software to add pedals, adjust tone, etc. There was a bit of a learning curve with this, as I had never used a DAW before, but there are some really helpful videos on the presonus site and youtube, so I was able to figure things out pretty quickly. I was already using Fender FUSE software to control my amp modeling settings, however I found that I started to just use Studio One for all of the effects instead of FUSE, as I preferred the tone and more granular control. I was never really satisfied with the sound using the amp's headphone jack out to the Presonus, despite it supposedly doubling as a line out. So I removed the amp from the setup and now I run my guitar > loop pedal > direct into presonus and use it almost exclusively for my practice "amp". This allows me to quickly record my loops from the pedal, and then add more loops on top, use different effects, virtual pedals per loop, etc. I'm extremely happy with the purchase. Personally, I feel the value of getting the Studio One software is worth the price, as there is a lot of really cool stuff you can do with it and it's been fun learning how to use it. I'm currently using headphones coming out of the audiobox to listen to everything, so my next purchase will probably be studio monitors.

A fantastic little box!

The original AudioBox USB from PreSonus was my first audio interface in high school. It was a great box then and the box just keeps getting better. For anyone needing a kick start on their recording capabilities, this little box is the way to go. It comes with a digital download for Studio One Artist, and with the new and improved Studio One 4, you will have a crazy intuitive and user-friendly DAW to work with a simple-yet-powerful interface. The size of the AudioBox makes it portable, and its sturdy solid metal chasis means you will not need to worry about it being damaged. Get yourself one and see for yourself!
