First throne was a round Pearl Roadster; sturdy vinyl throne, reasonably comfortable. Long sessions--over 60 minutes--and I'd feel the love a little bit. Also, when playing singles on the bass drum, it felt a bit awkward (maybe just me). I'm 5' 8" stocky, and 210. Wandered around Chicago one day, trying thrones, planted my behind on a Pork Pie. WOW! Tractor-style seat immediately impressive and Pork Pie's approach to cushioning was to me, perfect. Firmer than the Roadster, better shape, far more comfortable. Bought the seat top right then & there, clamped it to the Roadster stand, never looked back. Eventually sold the kit, regretted it, building a new one on my own; needed a throne. Need I say more..? Pork Pie is still the best, and the Big Boy is just the medicine for the hemorrhoidal percussionist... ;] Just as one should start upgrading with heads, New Beats and / or an Acrolite, so should the throne upgrade begin with Pork Pie. Buy with great confidence!
