Paiste has created one of the most amazing jazz cymbals in the Sweet Ride. It has just the right balance of dark toned wash, that responds instantly to changes in stick strikes. The stick is well defined and has a moderate ping to it that yields a brighter and somewhat thicker stick ping, perfect for jazz. I have played K Con's and Isty AGOP's Mel Lewis, of all sizes. I find those to have the dark wash right but the stick sound is kind of dull, muted and muddy. This Paiste is Baby Bear - just right. The Sweet Ride is airy, and musical, it harmonizes with both the piano and acoustic bass better than any ride I've used in this setting. A must have cymbal for any serious jazz drummer. Oh and if things get heavier into a Tony Williams Lifetime mood, this cymbal has the volume to be heard without shouting or straining. It crashes nicely and recovers so well it will stun you. The first time I played this cymbal, I hypnotically explored its qualities for over an hour, and could not believe how much versatility and the broad musical characteristics were packed into one cymbal. I cannot say it does a single thing poorly.
