Someone finally gets it right. I know businesses need to make money, but there's nothing wrong with giving users a versatile product that can do more than one thing. This is a great product. Not only is the sound quality fit for a professional, but the price is right. What MXR has done here is create a very responsive overdrive stage that dials in very articulate, gritty distortion (overdrive) but added a great deal of headroom for hard rock saturation and sustain. The boost stage is on a separate button and is separately adjustable. The boost will work independently and WILL boost a clean guitar, a completely different distortion on a chain, or even the amp's distortion. So this is in fact two pedals in one. The effect is versatile, rangy, durable and professional that while maintaing it affordable. This pedal goes from having NO gain to complete hard rock saturation on one knob. The construction is rugged and made to take punishment. The boost is 100% crystal clear. /It is definitely professional quality sound. I use the MC 402 mainly as a saturated full-throttled overdrive and I use the boost to solo. I originally intended to make the box into a second channel for my Fender Blues Junior since that's only a 1 channel amp. The pedal is so versatile that you can do a show on it. Absolutely a must have. The only way this pedal could get any better is if it came with a three band EQ. The tone dial still gives you plenty of control over your sound and the compact design means you'll still have plenty of room left on your board for delays, phases, wah's and other distortion flavors.
