Record vocals, instruments, or other audio sources quickly and easily. The M4 includes MOTU Performer Lite and Ableton Live Lite production software, 100+ instruments, dozens of plug-ins, and over 6 GB of loops and samples to start making music right away. Additional features include two mic/line/hi-Z instrument XLR combo inputs, individual preamp gain and 48V phantom power, two balanced 1/4-inch line inputs, one-touch hardware monitoring for all inputs, support for stereo monitoring, four balanced 1/4-inch DC-coupled outputs, four unbalanced RCA outputs (mirrored), mix knob for balancing live input with computer playback, ESS-driven headphone output with independent volume control, MIDI in/out, driver "loopback" channels for live-streaming and podcasting, and USB bus power with power switch (USB cable included).

Best-in-Class Audio Quality
Equipped with the same ESS Sabre32 Ultra DAC Technology found in audio interfaces costing thousands, the M4 delivers an astonishing 120 dB Dynamic Range on its line outputs. ESS converters also drive the headphone output, which rivals dedicated headphone amplifiers costing hundreds. Ultra-clean preamp circuits produce a measured -129 dBu EIN on the mic inputs. Capture and monitor your audio with pristine clarity.

Best-in-Class Speed
The M4 provides best-in-class speed for monitoring live inputs (mic, guitar or keyboard) through your computer, thanks to MOTU's expertly engineered USB drivers, which deliver class-leading, ultra-low 2.5 ms Round Trip Latency (32 sample buffer at 96 kHz).

Best-in-Class Metering
When recording and mixing, nothing is more critical than achieving optimum levels. The M4 is the only audio interface in its class with a full color 160x120 pixel LCD featuring clear, detailed level meters for all inputs and outputs. Happy with the M4

I am glad I chose the M4 over the smaller model. The monitor mix control and additional inputs are a big plus. The monitor output level is none too high for my 250 ohm headphones, but it's adequate and I will not be needing a separate headphone amp.

Great audio interface ever for its price

Look and Feel: 1. Knobs have nice feelings for metal touch when you actually dial it. 2. LCD screen makes easier to confirm actual signal flows. 3. Multi color LCD has a pixe values of 160x120. Most other LCD level meters for other audio interfaces tend to be just for "better look", but for this one, it is actually meant to help you seeing level meter of the sound. 4. The back of the M4 has both TRS and RCA output so that you can use whatever monitor speaker you have, giving you more freedom Functionality: 1. Loopback functionality enables you to not only record input sounds, but also record the playback sound blended with input. 2. See the attached latency test result. The official manual says under 32sample and 96000hz, it has 2.5ms latency, which is amazing for entry level audio interface. If you see actual testing result that is attached, you will be surprised as well. Performance: 1. Tested out its DAC by listening to carious genres of music. First listened to Robert Glasper. Able to listen longer resonance for drum's kick sound, which wad amazing 2. Second test listening was on Bach. Overall, i was able to feel the broad range of stereo image. 3. Third testing was on lofi hip hop. Overall, i would say the output creates solid and definate bass sound. In high frequency it sounds like UA Apollo twin x series. So if you like high frequcy sounds like RME UFX or Antelope, you would not want this audio interface. This sounds almost same as UA Apollo Twin X series. 4. Motu M4 uses ESS Sabre 32 Ultra DAC chip. So, basically Apogee's audio interface uses the same DAC chip, but they have totally different characteristics. Motu has a great damping sound. It is just amazing. Which makes this a strong buying point. So with the same chip, you would see how differnt the audio interface can it be based on the architecture. 5. Mic Preamps are good. They show sound quality for a price. The amaing point is the noise level on the Mic. THD+N equals -129dBu EIN. #sweepstakes

Huge fan of this purchase

I use the M4 to write/record songs in Ableton, as well as planning for a post-pandemic live set. It has enough inputs/outputs for a solo-instrumentalist to put on a cool show,

The MOTU M4 slaps

The USB C to USB 3.0 connection helps me record with little to no latency. It has enough inputs/outputs for a solo multi-instrumentalist artist to play different instruments in a live set! Perfect for solo artists or a small band.

Best quality audio interface at this price point

Hardware is outstanding compared to other audio interfaces at this price point, with many features not seen in competing products, including: - 4 inputs (two amplified) - Level monitoring display on front of device - Loopback capability - Independently-selectable phantom power (for each of the mic inputs). Moreover, the mic preamps and headphone amp are probably the best a this price point. I took off one star because it doesn't include any software aside from the hardware drivers. Most other audio interfaces at this price point include some extras, like VST plugins for compression, EQ, or reverb.

Amazing product as usual Motu does it again!!! By the way Sam Ash Staff is always a pleasure to buy from them. Thank you for your help guys.

Maybe . Not sure yet.

I'm lucky to have been able to obtain one of these. However, I had issues straight out of the box. The phantom power did not work. Luckily, I have outboard analog gear and so was able to use it. I contacted MOTU the next day. They said they would ship a replacement the next day and I'd receive it by the weekend. It took a few days longer. Finally got the replacement. It worked properly. However, it wasn't a new item and had a fairly sizeable dent. I noticed a smaller dent as well and other tiny scratches. I was pretty upset. I purchased a new item, not open box or refurbished. What upset me the most is it was never indicated that they'd be sending a refurbished unit that might have cosmetic imperfections. It didn't sit well with me that they would try to pass this off as a New item. Fortunately I notice very fine details and wasn't fooled. I contacted MOTU again. They apologized and are sending me another replacement. We'll see how that goes. The one thing I can say is MOTU is responsive, but still not happy about the unit I was sent. Fingers crossed. Hoping I receive a brand new interface that works. I'm hoping they make this right because it is great interface at a great price. The attached photos are of the replacement unit. The one purchased from Sam Ash was in brand new condition, with phantom power not working.

High Quality- No Hassle

Amazing interface. Plug and play and audio quality is incredible. I have been running it on Windows 10 with no issues so far. I had a different interface that would constantly cut out and the audio quality would be horrible, so this MOTU M4 has made everything so much better. Only downside...is trying to find one

Modern interface for the modern musician

I've had a PCI audio interface for years that has always worked great, but I couldn't really do mobile/on-the-go recording because I was bound to my desktop computer. I wanted to get a new interface that would give me more versatility, and the MOTU M4 is just that. It connects to my MacBook Pro via USB-C, and because it's bus-powered I don't have to worry about extra power cables. The preamps are really quiet and clean, latency is zero because you can monitor directly from the interface, the LCD screen lets you precisely watch the levels, and AD/DA is super fast. Very impressed and pleased with how well the M4 has been performing so far -- would 100% recommend!

Excellent interface for Windows, Mac and IOS.

Excellent interface for Windows, Mac and IOS. Easy to use love the two separate buttons for phantom power. Has loop back feature, 32bit/192kHz recording. LCD display is usable and colorful.
