4 reasons why this worked out for me. First, Tama stands are really high quality, heavier than other gig stands, but solid as a rock. The second reason I bought this particular stand was that I was looking for a Low profile stand to mount my iPad to when sitting down at the keyboard and regular mic stands were too high. The third reason was that this can split into 2 pieces that are about 18" each and fit into my gig bag. The fourth reason is that if I needed a higher mic stand (if I was sitting high, or standing), I could just position the telescopic boom straight up and have all the height that I needed. I'm going to get past the fact that I emailed Tama over a dozen times asking the same questions which they NEVER responded to, so I'm going to say that their support SUCKS, but I'm still glad I purchased this stand.
