A need to have Mic in the studio

Best all around Microphone I've used. Great for all types of vocals and guitar work, even a nice room mic also.

Want that "high end sound" for a low end price?

I've had this mic for about 4 years and it still sounds incredible. I've paired it with better pre-amps over time and it shines even better in it's performance.

Great value.

I've had this mic for years. It's a good vocal mic. Sax, piano and acoustic guitar are especially favored I do not use this with electric guitar as there is too much break up on the low-end, tone is affected. (Get out the 58's..)

Best for under $800

Product is amazing for this price. Well thought out. Great for voiceovers and recording. I am a live streamer on Twitch and I use this as my daily driver for my weekly streams. I have never had a problem with it. Bass is great, and all other sound sounds crisp and clear. A LOT better than my previous, clip-on mic. Top of the line for under $500 - $800 I would say

Go-To Vocal mic

This has become my favorite mic in it's price range, for sure. I started using this for vocals and haven't looked back. The response is very crispy, a great high-mid responsiveness and it's high-end is a makes it sound just the perfect amount of airy. If you don't like that, you can always dial back the the highs using an EQ. All-in-all it makes a great vocals vocal mic. If you get a pair, it makes for a great spaced pair set for the drums or even piano. It captures the low-end nicely, as well. Versatile mic. Recommend for any studio.

AT4040 Review

With the Sam Ash ASH ROCK rock group program, I record a lot of original music with the student bands. I'm always trying out different microphones, and just did a couple of projects with the AT4040 to record vocals. The signal was absolutely incredible, capturing all the dynamics low to high, soft to loud, from singers that varied greatly in style and vocal delivery. There was no noise whatsoever in the track, just crystal clear vocals. With my recording setup, I'm plugging the mics directly into an M-Audio interface, and not using high end processors...so microphone quality is very important, and this one delivered better than ones comparably priced. Highly recommend!

Semi Versatile

The build quality of this microphone seems very sturdy and solid. For sound quality, on the good side, this microphone works very well for high pitched instruments / bright formants. It adds more body to the lows and helps high instruments have more dynamic range. If you were just recording high pitched sources, then this is a great option. On the down side, this microphone does not handle low instruments / low formants at all. That low boost it gives will ruin the sound for low instruments. It's rough sounding and adjusting the microphone angle doesn't seem to help anything. So in all, this microphone is good for certain applications but definitely not low pitched sources.

Excellent utility mics. Great to have a pair lying around.

This microphone is one of those go anywhere do anything mics. It sounds good on lots of sound sources and also does an excellent job. I have used this mic for my sax recordings on albums, flutes, clarinets, guitar amps, pianos, and much more. It has a very even clean sound that is very easy to work with. It is not particularly colored or weighted mic, but it does have a slightly brighter sound than the at4047, which is also an excellent mic. So this mic tends to respond better to sound sources where clarity and bright sounds are preffered. (Strings, Piano, Room Micing, Cymbals) All in all this is a great all around studio mic that works great in a wide variety of applications. And the price is very good to boot.

Solid Performer at Any Price

I have had my 4040s (2) for 3 years and have been very pleased with their solid performance rugged build and sonic quality. I use them in x/y and ORTF stereo configuration and have been very pleased with the sound stage these produce. What's amazing is a demo a fellow engineer showed when he tested a random pair of 4040s and 4050s and their response was with in 2dB of each other along the entire curve. WOW - exceptional!
