The Michael Kelly Hybrid Special is truly a unique guitar. You are given excellent craftsmanship when it comes to the look and feel of this guitar, as well as hybrid features and high-quality specs. You will find that playing the Hybrid Special will blow your mind with the versatility it has to offer. This is a guitar that is definitely geared for musicians who want a well-rounded guitar that can handle literally any playstyle, ranging from any acoustic style, to anything you would play on an electric guitar, whether it be blues, or even metal.

Excellent Craftsmanship
This gorgeous Michael Kelly Hybrid Special is a semi-hollow chambered mahogany body with a spalt maple top. The neck is of a mahogany wood topped with a pau ferro fretboard with mother-of-pearl block inlays. In addition to the high-quality wood, the neck is a modern C profile which allows a much more fast-paced action around the fretboard when you're playing and you're looking for comfort.

Hybrid Features
The electronic work on the Michael Kelly Hybrid Special is very unique in its own way. You have the option to switch between a Fishman pickup from under the saddle for acoustic guitar tone, or the Rockfield SWC push-pull coil tap pickups for electric guitar tone. Not only can you switch between these pickups, you can blend them as well providing even more options to experiment with when writing or recording.

High-Quality Specs
From the neck all the way down to the body, the Michael Kelly Hybrid Special has fantastic specs that are absolutely worth having. Gorgeous chrome Grover tuners, along with a rosewood MK acoustic style bridge to complement the synthetic graphite nut. As previously mentioned before, the Fishman Powerchip and Fishman under-saddle pickup are a huge addition to this guitar, as well as the Rockfield SWC pickups for the electric guitar tone.

So far so good!

I like the guitar. To my ear, it has good useable acoustic and electric tones. I love the neck. It's the most comfortable neck profile I have had on a guitar (I'm just a rhythm guy though and don't get around much on it, just feels right to me). Tuners are great, high quality, I'm not a fan of the wood pickup covers or knobs, but that's just cosmetic. It plays nice, is light, easy to handle. I don't notice any neck dive, I thought I saw a comment about that being a negative. I miss individual volume and tone controls for the mag pickups though although it is less complicated. Had an epiphone les paul ultra III prior to this, very nice guitar. Electric tone was slightly better on that because you have more control over the blend (2 vol, 2 tone), but acoustic tone is better on this. I also have a Godin A6 Ultra. That has slightly better acoustic tone, but this one is very close. This MK has better electric tone and I prefer the feel of this guitar over the a6 personally. I sold the les paul, keeping the a6 as a backup / alternate, but right now, this is the one I want to pick up most. It's well made and sounds good. Great if you only want to bring one guitar. Couple it with a boss katana (swiss army amp) with the acoustic and electric settings and you have a very light and simple rig that provides a nice variety of sounds.

So versatile

It's great! So many tone options! Having a blast with this.

Good value for the money.

As a new electric user, it didn't take long to become accustomed to it. There are a lot of features I am still experimenting with.

I would purchase this guitar again.

Waiting to start lessons, so at this point just fooling around. Really feel this is a great guitar

This is a beautiful guitar and offers a huge variety of tones combining the 2 humbuckers (with coil tap) and the acoustic pickup. Being able to switch from an acoustic to electric so easily and blending those tones makes this unique (at least at this price range). Overall, a great value. There is a little neck drive but the guitar feels solid while not too heavy. The set up out of box was playable with only minor fret buzz. The workmanship was great except for some messiness around chambers that made a small cloud of sawdust when I pulled it out of the packaging. One other note: The Fishman Acoustic pickup does not seem to work with the Boss WL-T Wireless Transmitter.

Best guitar ever!

I bought this as a Christmas gift for myself. I received it Christmas Eve and lets just say I felt like I was opening the Leg Lamp in the movie Christmas Story. 1st, the shipping was perfect as for the care and wrapping used for shipping was like a tank, I couldn't unwrap it fast enough! Once I picked it up for the 1st time I knew I bought the right guitar. It fits my style and handles perfect for me. I don't have an amp at the moment however I know when I plug this into a Fender Tube Spring Reverb amp it will sound amazing. Unplugged, the tone is great being it's a semi-hollow. Absolutely beautiful guitar, wood finish and violin cutaways. I am very glad I bought this guitar. It stands out from the rest because there aren't really any other guitars that look like this and with the versatility of a hybrid. I would buy this guitar again easy, and you won't be disappointed if you decide to purchase this. If you do, enjoy!!!!!!!!!!

Love the feel, sound and playability

Using for practice sessions and playing in a praise and worship band. Was hoping to hear a more noticeable difference in sound between the "acoustic" and electric but overall happy with the guitar.

Like the feel, size and playability

Using mostly for practice and playing in a Praise Band. Like the size and feel of the guitar.

outstanding SOUND ! i own a martin , grand concert , and two Godins A-6 & A-12 this guitar blew me away with how natural the acoustic position sounded ! then tried the mix position and SAY NO MORE ! action on the neck , without any set up immediately caught my attention . I looked over at Chris ,( GM ) @ Margate store Fl. AND SAID THIS IS A FIRST ! i dont5 have to touch this guitar , already to take to gig ! anyone that reads this review thinks to good to be true ? then don't try these , your loss !

Great guitar, but...

Great guitar. Super lightweight. Piezo works very well too. Returned it though due to neck dive.
