Sleek, comfortable, and sonically versatile, the 63OP is the perfect guitar for the gigging musician. The Open Pore finish on this guitar provides a very natural feel. This finish will preserve the natural acoustic properties of this tonewood while still providing excellent protection. Put that with Michael Kelly's trio of Rockfield pickups found on all the 1963 models, complete with push/pull coil split on the tone knob for the humbucker, and you get a striking guitar with many tonal possibilities that is as much fun to play as it looks.

Features:

  • Sungkai Body w/ Trans Red Finish
  • 25.5"-Scale Hard Maple Neck w/ Ebony Fretboard
  • MK Vintage Plus Humbucker Bridge Pickup
  • MK Classic Center Single Coil Middle Pickup
  • MK Fat Single Coil Neck Pickup

Beautiful, comfortable, locking tuners, and great sounding

This is my second shot at an MK guitar. I returned the first one because I thought the Rockfield pickups sounded too thin/weak for my tastes. This guitar uses "vintage MK" p/u's and to me sound awesome. Great for blues, rock, and heavy rock - and the cleans sound fantastic too. The trem gives you a lot of Floyd Rose like fun - but with out the all Floyd Rose hassle. Things I love about the guitar: * It has MK locking tuners, which are very nice. They are very similar to Schecter locking tuners (big thumb knob). * It has a beautiful satin like finish - so no sticky / smudgy gloss! * The grain of the wood looks very unique and cool. * I love red guitars with pearl pick guards. * The floating trem works great and holds tune well (because of locking tuners) - but it's no Floyd and is waaaay easier to mess with. * The pick ups sound great for cleans, blues, rock, and hard rock (not necessarily thrashy style metal though) * It's a light and very comfortable guitar with a nice non-sticky neck. Okay, so the one and only negative about the guitar was the fret ends very slightly "nick" my hand up and down the fret board. It's not bad - but it is noticeable, and my other guitars don't do this. Nick might not be the right word - I am just saying I can feel the frets along the edge as I move my hand up and down the edge of neck, whereas on my other guitars I can't. But, with all the pro's and with how much I really love this guitar for the great price that it is... I'm definitely keeping this one and it's been my favorite to play since I've gotten it...
