Just the right amount of vintage magic makes the 53OP the choice for those that are seeking a more traditional instrument. For this special edition, Michael Kelly started with an exotic Sungkai tonewood body and wrapped it in a Tobacco Sunburst Open Pore finish that delivers a more natural feel. This finish will preserve the natural acoustic properties of this tonewood while still providing excellent protection.

The pickup configuration on the 53OP guitars is vintage traditional. Well at least that is how it appears. Actually Michael Kelly put an MK electronics mod on the 53OP that they call the Quad Mod. As the name implies you get 4 great sonic options instead of the expected 3 options. The 53OP has a 4 way switch and in that fourth switch position we give you both pickups in series. It is like having a nice fat humbucker as those two pickups work together. The 53OP also has some nice and hot single-coil Rockfield's designed especially for this instrument. Traditional has never been more evolved.

Quad Mod
The Quad Mod gives you the traditional three-position tonal performance, while adding a valuable 4th pickup setting. This added tonal option turns on both neck and bridge pickups in series which is a thick and punchy tone much like a humbucker. However considering the two coils are located in completely different locations on the guitar the tone is as unique as it is useful and a welcome addition to the standard two single coil pickup configuration.

Better than Expected

I've owned the 53OP for about 5 weeks now and I'm very pleased. It's comfortable and very easy to play in that everything just seems to be in the right place. I swapped out the pickguard because I just hated the white pearlescent. I swapped out the pickups, because I already had a set I love and I knew I would use them in whatever tele I bought, but the stock pickups didn't sound bad. I also already had a set of Highwood saddles, so I swapped them in as well. None of these changes were necessary, but I already had 'em, so why not. The "bad". A few of the frets on the high e side had fret sprout(?). The nib and the tang could be felt extending out of the fretboard. Cautious use of a small file and finishing with a 3M #320 sanding sponge fixed it right up, and believe me when I say that I'm no Luthier. I have several fairly expensive guitars in the rotation, and the 53OP does not disappoint. I love the tone I get out of it. Sometimes you get a guitar and you feel it lacks "something". I'm getting none of that from this mildly priced tele style guitar. This 53OP is replacing a Squire Standard I didn't much care for.

Love the finish and quality

The guitar looks much better in your hand. The photos do not do justice to how nice this guitar really looks. The ebony fretboard is amazing and smooth. The tone options give you a range of creativity, sounds great. This guitar gives you a lot for the value. Just awesome.

I love this guitar.

I bought this guitar so I could give it to my friend who wanted to learn how to play. I haven't had a chance to get over to see him because he's in quarantine. I've been playing his guitar and will be buying another one to replace it for him. Needless to say I love this guitar.

Love this guitar

Love this guitar! Michael Kelly makes wonderful products. The playability, the finish, everything is all wonderful.
