The Michael Kelly 53DB electric guitar is built with some of the finest quality the industry has to offer. Big tone and versatility stand out the most when it comes to the 53DB, thanks to the custom electronics modification you can take full advantage of what this guitar brings to the table. The Michael Kelly 53DB is perfect for just about any genre in the business, ranging from blues to even metal.

Finest Quality
The 53DB body is made of alder with a flame maple top, and a natural body wood stripe binding. The neck is also made of maple, topped with a rosewood fingerboard (or maple for cherry sunburst color) which all feel great on the guitar, and sound amazing.  The modern C neck profile provides much smoother playability without sacrificing the feel of a vintage-style guitar.

Big Tone and Versatility
As previously mentioned before, a huge part of why this guitar sounds so big and versatile is due to the wood used on the build. The real bread and butter of it all is the pickups. The Rockfield SWC pickups are ground-up designed pickups that are made with nothing but love and care. They provide glass-like cleans, as well as extremely warm distortion tones with a powerful sustain.

Custom Electronics Modification
This boutique-style mod known as the Great 8 electronics mod is an incredible device that allows you to manipulate your tone to its fullest potential. The Great 8 allows you to double the power of your humbuckers, as well as split the pickups and provide a single-coil sound. The push-pull switches on the volume and tone knobs allow easy-access to maximize your experience when using this feature.

Super buy!

It instantly became my main guitar, great instrument, great price and great promt service.

It's up there with Fender's Squier CV line

The Michael Kelly 53DB is a great guitar. It's extremely diverse thanks to the coil splitting, but one of my favorite features is the bridge. Yes, It's an ash tray bridge, which is a definitive aspect of a Telecaster, but you don't see it often with humbuckers. For 400 dollars, it is amazingly playable, beautiful, great sounding, and well built. It's hard for me to come up with something bad to say... but be careful because the soft body has a few dents courtesy of a similarly priced Ibanez. The headstock is a great compromise for not having Fender's shape, and fitting both T and S style guitars. Now, it shows it's weakness in the pickups, but really, everywhere else, you wouldn't guess that it's a 400 dollar guitar, so a pickup upgrade could put it up in really any range. Michael Kelly has shown themselves to be a great manufacture, and I'm glad they're expanding. I highly recommend any of their products.

Beautiful guitar - amazing value

Very playable out of the box. Expertly setup and the intonation is spot on. The finish is gorgeous with a couple of flaws under the surface (paint gassing out from the look of it) but almost unnoticable. The electronics, pickups, switches are all solid with some great tones. The double humbucker chugs well, can be a little muddy, but Overdrives very well. The split coil sounds are nice and clear, with a slight chime. Tuners and bridge are okay, not junk but appropriate for the price range. There isn't anything I would change out on this other than the strings, which is purely a preference thing in my case. The stock strings are D'Addario and are perfectly servicable. All in all, this is a beautiful machine and absolute steal for the price. Definitely punches above its weight class.

53db electric guitar recommended!

beautiful instrument!great craftsmanship, pickups, quiet push pull knobs , spot on intonation setup, delivered in a ouick time frame ,excellent communication/follow up customer service from sam ash team! recommened!

Good to go out of the box

I tested one of these off the rack at a Sam Ash. I was intrigued by the price $397 and contoured body. I was really surprised how well this guitar played without a set up or better strings. For the price I wouldn't hesitate to buy one if in the market for another tele style body.

Very well made guitar. For the price, it's unbievable!!

The guitar is beautiful. The neck didn't need any adjustment. Frets feel very nice, no sharp edges. All controls feel solid. Tuners keep the guitar in tune. The only thing I didn't like was the stock pickups. They were a little too dark (muddy) sounding to me. I replaced them with a set of Dimarzios, and now I couldn't be any happier with this guitar. I don't use the coil tapping stuff, so when I replaced the pickups, I wired it for full-on humbucking. I have an American made PRS, an American Fender Tele, and an American Fender Strat. I play gigs about 3-4 times a month, and this is the guitar I use.

I'm really happy with my 53DB

I had reservations about buying a guitar over the internet. I had an opportunity to play two other Micheal Kelly guitars in a local shop, and I was very impressed. I wanted the 53DB and since they couldn't get one at the time, I ordered from Sam Ash. The guitar was mostly perfect out of the box. The action is low, but no buzzing anywhere. The intonation is so close to being perfect that it will be a long time before I bother adjusting it. The finish was great, beautiful instrument. The only problem, and the reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5, is that the fret edges were sharp. It was still playable, just not very comfortable. I used some fine grit sandpaper paper and a wood block to carefully sand the sharpness off. Yes, I know that's not the proper way to fix that problem, and yes, I did end up taking off a bit of the fretboard in a few places. But rosewood hides that kind of damage really well, and it didn't affect the playability. In the end it comes down to this: This guitar was less than $400, and over all, it's really nice. It wasn't worth it to me to fool around with either trying to exchange it, or paying a real luthier. So I will live with a few barely visible scuffs on the fretboard in exchange for smoothness. I got a really great and highly playable guitar for a good price, and I'm very happy with it. I'm glad I took a chance on a Sam Ash internet guitar.

I would definitely buy this guitar again!

Unbelievable value for such a low price! The guitar was still in tune when I pulled it out of the box. It is a very versatile Tele. You can get fat humbucker growls, as well as spanking, vintage Tele tones. I don't know how Michael Kelly does it. Thanks for the efficient service SamAsh!

Super nice guitar

So I decided to pull the trigger on the Michael Kelly 53 DB. Man what a beautiful guitar. Nobody on the planet puts such a beautiful top on a guitar at this price. The pickups sound killer and coil tapping on both pickups. What a stunning guitar. I would like to say that I would buy this guitar again but the fact is I already bought two of the 1953 Michael Kelly guitars. I bought the 53 DB because the two 1953 guitars I bought were also stunning. I have many guitars and love them all but at the moment these Michael Kelly guitars are buy far the biggest bang for the buck out there
