Surprised. Was looking for a djembe for that single hand drum with big sound but found this instead. it has a VERY punchy low sound and an ultra-crisp high. It's a different flavor from the djembe but it fills a similar sound spectrum. At this price range, you're getting a top notch sound and that was the bottom line for me. Meinl also throws in value. The replacement head, carrying case and tuning wrench are very convenient and good to have. Finally, the drum has a quality vinyl/tolex finish, completing the package of great tone with appealing aesthetics. I use it for recording and to accompany acoustic/unplugged gigs. Excellent product.
