Martin SP® Studio/Performance Series strings are ideal live, in the studio, or wherever maximum string life is desired. The creation of these new high performance strings is a result of research done in cooperation with specialty steel producers. Due to the development of an industry leading ultra-high quality steel core, Martin SP strings resist breakage better than average strings. In addition, both the core wires and the plain strings are plated with a smooth, acoustic bronze finish. Though this golden bronze finish does enhance the beauty of your guitar, it's purpose is much more functional - to prolong brightness, string life, and superior tonal quality to meet the high expectations of demanding musicians.

Light to the touch, long lasting

I purchased these strings not really knowing what to expect. I don't change strings often. I play songs I like, mostly by ear, and in this sense I'm certainly an amatuer, and I also might not play my guitar for weeks at a time. I say this b/c for me, picking up my guitar and having the strings in tune is a very nice thing. Of course, when you put them on they stretch like crazy like all strings, but since they are 'broken in' i haven't had to tune them in some time, despite pretty agressive strumming and plucking. Anyway, I felt these strings did the job, were easy on my fingers and are lasting a long time.

Great Inbetween Guage

I've used Martin Marquis Extra-Lights on my non-Martin guitars for years for their ease on the fingers (and less-than-desirable actions...), and continue to use MSP4600's on my Martin D12-18 that I inherited. Recently, I picked up a couple new Martin 6-string guitars, which came with MSP4200 mediums. The 4200's sounded great but were a bit of a chore to play for my smaller than average hands. I was worried about putting Extra-Lights on the Martins -- fear of loss of bass and unwanted tininess. So, I tried some MSP4100 Lights on my D-15 and these MSP4050 Custom Lights on the other, a DSR-GC -- which has a lighter sound than the D-15 -- as any tininess would be more noticeable on the DSR. Well, not only do these 4050's play great, they sound fantastic! Not at all tinny, and give a rich balanced sound, though not quite as rich as the 4200's. I may try these on my D-15 as well.
