The Manley Reference Cardioid Microphone closely recalls how many of the vintage European tube mics such as the beloved U47 sounded like when they were new, with the similar film thickness and construction, similar high frequency resonance (a little edge), similar proximity effect and pretty good immunity from pops and sibilance problems.

Its rich tonal balance and liquid character is consistently admired for instruments such as guitars, drum overheads, saxophone, and especially vocals. With your present mic, if you find yourself leaning on your compressors and boosting 5 or 10K to score a bit more testosterone, then the Reference Cardioid just might be the mic you’re looking for to cure what ails ya'...

If you seem to be constantly boosting 12-18K and trying to get a clean, intimate sound, then probably the Reference Gold would be your safest and best bet!

A must have for any studio

Set aside from this being just a plain cool mic to look at, Manley have made a Cardioid reference quality mic that works well on many sources. From vocals to acoustic guitars to drum overheads, the Manley Reference Cardioid delivers detailed highs without being harsh and a nice and smooth low end. From classical to rap vocals, this is one of my go to mics in my mic locker. With minimal coloration, what you put in is what will come out. The only con is that I don't own more than one!

'That' Pop Vocal Sound

An incredible mic for that bright, clear, in your face modern vocal sound. Make sure your room is quiet and acoustically treated. This thing is very sensitive to the recording environment. If you're to invest in professional vocal microphone and you often go for a modern vocal sound, Manley Ref C should be on your radar

A Serious microphone for serious engineers

I am so glad I bought this mic. It's been used on countless lead vocals, acoustic guitars, voice overs, acoustic bases, and more. The sound is unmistakably modern without being harsh. I was apprehensive when I ordered it because of the pricepoint. But it has proved itself indispensable over the years. My only regret is that I don't own two!

One of the Best Mics for the Money!

Used this mic in my studio. Gives vocals the Clear, up close modern sound that most people are looking for. A few hundred dollars cheaper then a U87 and it sounds better. Used as a drum room mic you almost don't need the close mics. All the drums sound upfront with just the one mic. If you are looking for a great mic that makes almost anything sound good, This IS the mic for you. [email protected]
