This Ludwig 400 is a budget-priced hardware package described as Medium Weight, but there's nothing flimsy about it. The stands are double-braced, heavy and sturdy; able to hold anything from a rack tom to a 22" cymbal, or both with ease. The stands are not double-jointed (extra-height), but they are nice and solid. The snare and the hi-hat stands share the same durability of the cymbal stands. The hi-hat has a 3-way tension adjuster. The kick pedal is a basic spring-assisted pedal with metal foot-board and a dual-surface beater. It can easily be adjusted to taste, but I personally prefer my old Pearl Power-Shifter with worn (soft) felt beater. The Tama pack includes the same hardware as Ludwig 400 and offers double-jointed stands (if you need extra height). It is also more expensive. Add the individual cost of each item in the hardware pack (any brand) and you will see that the Ludwig 400 is a tremendous value.
