I bought this guitar to replace an Oscar Schmidt / Washburn Les Paul. If you had asked me if I thought there would be a difference between the two, I would have said no. I would have said that they are both made of wood and both use the same pickups and strings. I am here to tell you that there is a MAJOR difference in the sound and playability. The sound is better with an amp, but even more surprisingly the sound is better without the amp too!! It handles easier, the neck is faster and more comfortable. I am missing 2 fingers on my fret hand and this Gibson 60's tribute has a narrow enough neck that I can make longer reaches than I could on the Oscar Schmidt and I can do it a lot faster. But the best part is the customer service at Sam Ash. We had a problem with the first guitar because the Fed Ex driver marked the shipment undeliverable and he actually took the box home with him. When we got the guitar back, the fine people at the Sam Ash City of Industry store checked the guitar out and made sure I was taken care of.
