Curvey Reid is a percussionist, pianist, composer, band leader, and Educator. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and Performance from Virginia State University. Curvey studied percussion with Dr. Andy Harnesberger, Dr. Greg Gianoscoli, Raul Rekow and Giovanni Hidalgo. He has also received piano instruction from Professor Bukner Gamby, Dr. Donna Whitehead, and Debo Dabney. He performs exclusively on Sonor Drums, Musser Piper Vibraphone, Adams Marimba, LP Congas, Sabian cymbals, Vic Firth drumsticks and mallets.
Curvey has performed solo at the Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City and toured throughout the United States, Canada, Cuba, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Europe. Currently he plays drums for Premiere Band and he is the band leader for Curv Appeal (in which he is featured on Congas and Vibraphone). Most recently, Curvey Reid can be seen playing drums on a Virginia Lottery Commercial.
His band, Curv Appeal, has opened up for Kenny ‘Babyface’ Edmonds, Will Downing, AWB and has shared the stage with several other known artists. In addition to performing for several Jazz Festivals, Curv Appeal has also been voted the best band of the year for 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017 for TV 6.
He has provided educational instruction to many high schools and universities throughout Central Virginia as well as nationwide. Educational instruction to include, drum line instruction, percussion camps, and private lessons. He is a highly sought out musician and educator who loves teaching music makers and serious students who are pursuing their own careers in music.
