From the series bearing the name of the lethal Japanese weapon, this amp sports deadly sound.

A symbol of great honor and prestige in Japan, the traditional Japanese Katana sword embodies pride, efficacy and power. That was Boss's inspiration for this line of amplifiers. The Katana-50 50-Watt 1x12" guitar combo amplifier features five distinct amp characters, unreal customization, and easy-to-use controls. This amp is great for players who want maximum power and sonic control in a combo amplifier.

Five Distinct Amp Channels
Spanning genres and allowing you to find your sonic voice, the Katana-50 has five different channels to choose from. The standard clean will allow the electronics on your guitar to shine. Move on up to crunch and you'll receive a signal with a welcome bit of dirt on it. The lead channel gives you the treble to really stick out, regardless of whether you're playing a classic rock guitar solo or some heavy metal arpeggios.  The brown channel realizes full, blazing, high-gain tone for the heaviest rock n' rollers, while the acoustic channel brings it back down to that smooth, natural wood grain sound.

Unreal Customization
The Boss Katana-50 50-Watt 1x12" began with five distinct amp channels as its foundation and continued to build from there. It's got a gain control to adjust the channels' character, as well as a three band EQ. The Boss Katana Version 2 allows you to connect to the Boss Tone Studio via USB and gain access to 58 customizable effects. There's a ton of options to choose from, including distortion tones, delay, reverb, and ring mod, amongst many more. When you find which of the many, many sounds you love, you can store it in the Tone Setting memory bank. The Version 2 Katana doubled the amount of presets, from two to four.

Easy-To-Use Controls
With all these features you might think it could get overwhelming. Not so. The Katana is gifted with grace and simplicity. Standard controls like volume, gain and EQ functions will all seem familiar. The effects parameters are all attuned with a knob, and storing tone settings is as easy as holding down a button. The Katana-50 also has USB outputs so you can play into a recording system, or headphones, so you can rock without waking the neighbors.

• Five Distinct Amp Channels
• 3-Band EQ
• 58 Customizable Effects from the Boss Tone Studio via USB

Great little amp

5

This is not my only amp but it fills a nice niche. Overall sound and feel are very much like a tube amp and I have 2 tube amps sitting beside me. However, if volume is a concern the Katana will actually turn down to a level that makes tube amps sound iffy. The volume at 50 watts is more than adequate. Coupled with the software any sound is possible using the 50+ built in effects. I tried some Boss stomp boxes with it and it's difficult to tell the difference between the amp built in effects. 4 presets is great and the footswitch to toggle between them is only $60 so it's very giggable. If you want an amp that yu can tweak to eternity this is it. I love playing around with it and the overall EQ allows you to dial out any boxiness from the relatively small box. The USB out does a good job for recording and even this is tweakable, if such a word exists. That is this amp, tweakable and it sounds way better than the $200 price tag would have you believe.

WON ME OVER BIG TIME

5

I have had this amp for about two weeks now. I own some great tube amps but I wanted something lighter and more dependable. I swung back and forth betwen thinking this is an amazingly good amp or a piece of transistor junk. Finally my mind is made up. This thing is astounding. To get the sounds you really want will sometimes take a little tweaking. A few dregrees on the knobs and you have a whole different amp but all the tones are in there. The stock speaker looks cheesey but it flat out booms and gets plenty of chime and low end. This thing is loud enough to play anywhere. It is totally a gigable amp. I do wish there was a way to tap time the effects with a foot pedal but this thing costs less than one good pedal and has a ton of good fx built into it so I guess I can live with that minor inconvenience. Bang for the buck nothing comes close. One might buy it for a cheap backup amp but it will rise to the top of the list of your weapons of choice.

Best Amp for the Best Price!

The Boss Katana is the best thing Boss has put out in my opinion. This amp is super easy to find literally any tone you want and save it directly to its presets. With 5 different settings (including an Acoustic and "Brown Note" setting) feel free to add Delay, Reverb, Chorus, Boost, Phase and whatever else to make this amp perfect for you. Plus it just sounds fantastic!!! Love this amp.

Very impressed

5

Went into my local Sam Ash looking for a very compact and lightweight practice amp for my living room. I've got plenty of larger tube amps in the studio but sometimes just want to run some riffs during commercials. I was thinking of something like a Champ 20 or a little Orange practice amp but then a brand new Katana 50 was brought out to be unboxed and put on display. Ok, a little larger than I'd wanted but as soon as I plugged in & kicked it on I was sold. Love the power management, drop it down to a quarter watt and get some sweet grind at living room levels but at the full 50 watts I'd have no hesitation at running a small bar gig with it. I'm VERY impressed with Roland's amp modeling - tremendous touch dynamics and grit if you really dig in. Most of my personal stuff is tube but I also own a Fender Mustang III 100 watt and have to say I think I like the Katana a little but more because of its simplicity. If you're looking for a reasonably priced amp that's more than just a beginners toy, you won't be disappointed with the new Boss Katana. THANKS NICK!

Great Amp for Practice and Modeling

5

Great practice amp and modeling amp. Its hard to find a Solid state that can emulate tubes so well, and the Katana takes the cake. It is super versatile and all the sounds it makes sounds great. Although this is usually used for practice, it can handle loud volumes as well and can keep up with drums. I love this thing and it is super light weight. Cleans sound great and the Dirty is even better.

Fantastic amp

5

Boss has always been known for quality pedals and now they have entered the amp game with their Katana line up. These amps are incredibly versatile. The best part is the ability to get 55 of Boss's well known FXs through their tone editor software, making this amp useful in almost any situation.

Versatile combo

5

This is a great sounding combo. Boss has taken their popular effects and modeling and built them into a versatile combo amp. Although many other manufactures have similar amps out on the market, this is the only one to have the popular Boss tones built in. It's easy to dial in your favorite tones and program them for later use. The price makes this amp affordable for any player and doubles as a great practice amp as well as for live performance.

Easy to Use Amp

5

There are a lot of amps on the market now that have tons of sounds and effects built in, but many of there are really difficult to use. The Katana is easy to understand, and easy to dial in great tones. Also, nearly all the tones and effects are useful. There aren't a bunch of outliers that you'll never use. And... in this very compact box, you've got enough volume to jam with a live drummer, so it's not just a practice amp. It's a rehearsal amp, and even a gigging amp.
