The iconic body style of the JEMJR guitar is carved from mahogany, and features the JEM trademark “monkey grip” cut near the upper horn, along with a white finish. Steve Vai prefers the metal industry standard H-S-H schematic for maximized tonal versatility. The JEMJR features a trio of Ibanez Quantum pickups. The humbuckers in the neck and bridge positions feature ceramic magnets that reproduce more harmonic overtones than conventional humbucking pickups. The single coil pickup in the middle delivers a more traditional tone.  The simplified controls include a master volume, master tone, and a 5-way switch providing endless tonal variations and slabs of explosive tone.

The Ibanez JEMJR also gives you an ultra-thin fast-playing maple neck, carved to Mr. Vai’s exacting specs. Steve Vai has always been partial to slim neck profiles that maximize ease of playability and enable him to play at blazing velocity. The 24-fret JEM neck boasts an extremely flat 15.74” radius, and a rosewood fretboard adorned with Steve Vai’s “Tree of Life” inlay.

The Ibanez double-locking  tremolo system makes tuning easier and faster as well as providing stable tuning that will withstand long performances, all while maintaining smooth tremolo playing. Loss of tuning is kept to a minimum, even through aggressive dive-bomb licks or when a string breaks.  Case not included.

Guitar Was Good At First...Not So Much Now

I've been using this record. At first I thought it was a great deal and everything I needed. The frets felt a little rough but that's normally something a little string bending takes care of. Well, not this time. Three and a half months in and I can still feel the scraping. The vibrato arm also jiggles and the whole mechanism comes loose. The sound of it is really muddy compared to my Dean EVO Special. I can get a cleaner sound from the Dean's humbucker than the Ibanez's single coil. I really want to love this guitar but it's starting to look like something for display only purposes unless I Frankenstein this thing. I'm afraid to take it back to Sam Ash for repairs because they ruined my 1986 Jackson San Dimas Custom Shop when all I wanted was to put in a new block on the Floyd Rose Bridge and adjust it. When I got it back I couldn't move the 1st or 6th string without them slipping off of the neck. I took my Dean to them to have an output jack installed but got it back with grounding issues and they used a really cheap output jack. The JEMJR is a gorgeous guitar with great potential but it's clear why it's about $1000 less than the real JEM guitars. If you buy this be prepared to make serious adjustments.

I picked up this guitar two weeks ago and cant put it down. When I first saw it in my local Sam Ash I didn't realize it wasn't a full fledged JEM. They had this one parked between the 7-String 7V7 and the 70V. I just thought it was a plain white version. I've been playing for over 25 years and I was blown away by this guitar. Ive owned Jacksons, Charvel's, Gibson's and two Joe Satriani guitars and this does not let you down. If you don't have the cash for the real deal JEM I assure you that you WILL NOT be disappointed with this ax. It looks GREAT, the neck is FAST and thin, the sound is incredible even for stock Ibanez pick ups. The bridge isn't a five star, but I would give it a solid four because you really need to wrench it around to get it to pull out of tune. I'm just going to upgrade it one piece at a time but overall you will not find you better guitar in this price range!
