The Ibanez SRF700 Portamento Fretless Bass provides quality and construction that gives off a top shelf vibe. The SRF neck features a 5pc Maple/Bubinga neck-thru construction for increased sustain and superior tone.  The neck is carved into the SR’s signature "Slim & Fast" profile to give you great playability. The SR Portamento features an extended Rosewood fingerboard (the equivalent of 30 frets) for playing in upper registers usually only accessible on an upright. The body features mahogany wings to accompany the thru-body maple neck, providing maximum resonance and tone.

The Bartolini MK1 pickups provide players a powerful and aggressive tone. The Ibanez SRF700 Portamento Fretless Bass features an onboard 2-band EQ, allowing you unlimited possibilities in tone-shaping.  The Custom bridge is created specifically for the optimum performance of the AeroSilk Piezo pickup system. Unique plastic saddles were designed to work in concert with the piezo pickups and enhance the acoustic "stand-up" quality of the sound. Each pickup has its own volume control. On the back of the SR Portamento are recessed controls assigned to each individual string to control the volume of the Ibanez-exclusive AeroSilk Piezo pickup. Perfect string balance and response can be achieved by adjusting the volume to accommodate different string gauges. Case not included.

Versatility galore

I'm a jazz player and I've had an Ibanez fretted for years that got the job done, but I was always slightly disappointed. This fretless is a dream come true. Plays smooth as silk. The five piece neck through design really gets the thing resonating and it just feels so solid. It's also very lightweight, which is great for me as I have back problems. The vast amount of sounds you can achieve from mixing this pickup or that, the individually adjustable piezos, as well as finger placement, allow me to tailor my sound to my liking. The guys I play with love having the sound of a stand up compared to my old GSR. I highly recommend this bass to anyone who wants to take the leap to fretless.

Very Close To An Upright

I've always wanted an electric bass that sounded like an upright, and this bass gets very close. This bass was designed from the drawing board as a fretless, and Ibanez has succeeded in creating a fretless bass guitar that sounds very close to the sound of an upright bass. It is also very versatile. Using only the piezo pickups in the bridge, this bass sounds very much like an upright. Use both magnetic pickups, and it sounds something like a 60s Jazz bass. The neck pickup soloed sounds reasonably close to a Precision bass. My favorite setting is: Piezos on full with the neck pickup at about 3, just to give a little more bottom; play over the neck at the 20th to 24th fret, and you get an upright tone. The flat wound strings that come standard were also a very good choice in adding to the upright-like tone. This bass is also very light, and the neck is a pleasure to play. Ibanez has definitely hit a home run with this bass. If you're looking for a bass guitar that can give you an upright tone, please, do not overlook this one.

The Lady in the lake

The Portamento should be voted fretless bass of the year. Words can not begin to describe how beautiful this bass looks and sounds. Ibanez and the disciplined craftsmen they sourced out to make these basses (Indonesia) have crafted a must-have tool for the Fusion artist in need of a very expressive instrument. A great tonal range, a graceful neck, quality workmanship (all around) and a great design, look and finish. I fell asleep with it in my hands...

What a sweet fretless bass guitar

I bought this because it promised provide a sound that's very close to an upright. They were right. What they didn't say anything about was how great it sounded when you aren't relying solely on the piezos. It's light! It's responsive! It's fun to play! And I haven't even changed the strings yet (insert Thomastik plug here). Fit, finish, and design are very, very nice. It's so nice that when I asked my brother-in-law which basses I should leave him in my will, he asked for the Ibanez and the Rick! I've put away my Fender fretless in favor of the Ibanez. It will take a lot for me to pull it back out. I almost like it more than my hollow bodies. Almost. It's getting more playing time than they are right now, that's for sure.
