Excellent harmonica. Hohner Golden Melody, Blues Harp and Marine Band are the way to go for true harmonica playing.

This is one of the most underrated harps on the market. I've used Marine Band, Special 20s and really enjoyed Lee Oskars for a long time. The first time a Golden Melody hit my lips, I was hooked. The tone is phenomenal, the ease of bending notes is wonderful, the ability to play at higher speeds (think Sugar Blue and John Popper) without missing a note, and it's durability are what keep me buying them over and over again. I wish more of these were available. I need unusual tunings and they're not as easy to find as your common C harps. I've read that these wear down quick. In my experience, ALL harps wear down quick. The constant bending and pressure on the reeds will wear them out. I've had my new ones for a few months now and they still sound like new. I LOVE these harps and will stay with them as long as they keep making them.

Is it normal for the reeds to give out after one to two years? I practice for only a few minutes a week and use it for occasional karaoke enhancement. At the prices they charge, I expect better durability, -especially since I follow the rule of not playing with food residue in your mouth.

I'm a die-hard wooden comb harp player, but after hearing the great reviews on the Golden Melody harp, I decided to buy one and try it out. I was completely blown away by the clear, crisp, and beautiful sound from this harp, since I'm a single note player. It's also very smooth to hold, and very easy to slide across your mouth. This is now my harp of choice. No more wooden combs for me! Awesome!
