At Sam Ash we have a great selection of headphones and headphone amps for all your listening needs. Whether you are a DJ or Producer who needs studio quality phones so you can hear all the detail in the mix or a casual listener who needs something for running or to keep out noise on an airplane trip, we have your headphones. To help you select, here is some information about the different type of headphones we carry:
Over Ear Headphones– use a sealed back design to isolate users from moderate background noise and to prevent sound from leaking from your phones to the outside. These are an excellent choice for sound engineers, producers, and DJs, because they keep out distractions while you listen to all the subtleties of the mix.
On Ear Headphones– some are closed and others let you hear the sound in your environment, but all are designed for comfort. When properly adjusted On-Ear headphones can be used for fitness applications. On-ear phones are great for listening to tablets, smartphones, laptops and other digital sources. Many are available with Bluetooth for wireless listening. For smartphones and tablets, consider models with built in microphones and volume and other controls so you can answer calls and control you music player.
In-Ear/Earbuds – In-ear phones are worn in the ear canal and usually come with a variety of replaceable eartips so you can get the best fit and the sound isolation. A good pair of in-ear phones are as good as noise canceling phones when you want to block airplane noise, but they don’t affect the sound you hear from you music player. The best in-ear phones sound better than comparable headphones and fit securely for running and fitness applications. Earbuds are similar to the phones that are included with most smartphones. These sit on the outer ear and are usually inexpensive and provide no sound isolation, so you can hear a conversation while listening to the phones. Some are secure enough for running and sports, but they don’t fit as snugly as in-ear models and are not for critical or demanding listeners.
Noise Canceling Headphones – Uses electronics to counteract steady low frequency noises from planes, trains, and automobiles (great for passengers, should never be used by the driver or pilot).
Wireless Headphones - These headphones "cut the cord" to allow you to freely move about while listening. Great for situations where you don't want a long cable getting in the way. While wireless headphones have been around for quite a while, today most of them use Bluetooth technology to be compatible with modern devices.
Isolation Headphones - These headphones totally block out any external sound so you can totally focus on the music. Some isolation headphones are designed only to block or reduce external sounds for use in high volume areas to avoid hearing damage.
