This book is great for anybody looking to start playing drums, regardless of age. I use it with students for private instruction, but its formatted in such a way that a self-teaching drummer would benefit greatly as well. It starts at a very basic level, and someone who has played for a bit may be tempted to skip ahead, but try to work through the "boring" parts instead of jumping around. The series lays a good foundation of technique and theory that many self-taught musicians may have overlooked, and learning them properly makes advancing further down the road much easier. There are innumerable books that cover more advanced techniques or niche topics, but this edition is a great precursor to any of them.
