A stunning tribute to the "President of Bebop Guitar" and one of the most revolutionary electric guitarists in jazz history, Epiphone is proud to introduce the Joe Pass Emperor-II PRO Archtop.

Throughout his extensive career, Joe Pass was widely recognized for his truly unique, innovative style, which made him the perfect accompaniment for some of the biggest names in jazz including Ella Fitzgerald, Les McCaan, Herb Ellis, Chet Baker, Milt Jackson, Ray Borwn and Oscar Peterson.

A true archtop, the Epiphone Joe Pass Emperor-II PRO a fully hollow single cutaway body made with beautiful laminated flame maple back and sides with a select spruce top. For superb tone and resonance, the arched top is supported by hand-scalloped bracing and a carefully positioned sound post. The Joe Pass Emperor-II PRO comes handsomely dressed in your choice of Natural, Wine Red, or Joe's favorite, Vintage Sunburst. This classy archtop is adorned with a traditionally-shaped tortoise-style bound pickguard featuring Epiphone's signature metal "E" as well as multi-ply binding for the top, back, F-holes, neck and headstock.

For a classic feel, the hand-set 3-piece laminated hard maple neck is carved into a comfortable, fast 1960s SlimTaper C shape and features a 24.75" scale length. The rosewood fingerboard houses 22 medium jumbo frets for superb playability while elegant pearloid block inlays cater to the elegant looks. The fingerboard is topped with a Graphtech NuBone XL nut, which offers exceptional intonation and string balance. The NuBone XL nut is also as hard as bone but will last a lifetime without cracking or chipping. A beautiful "tree of life" inlay graces the headstock -- a classic inlay that can be seen on the best Epiphone archtops since the '30s.

For that classic vintage voice with modern versatility, the Joe Pass Emperor-II PRO comes equipped with a pair of Epiphone's PAF-style ProBucker humbuckers with coil-tapping capabilities. First made in the late '50s in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the "Patent Applied For" pickups are considered by most to be the "Holy Grail" of guitar pickups. With the ProBucker pickups, Epiphone has faithfully re-created the distinctive sonic qualities of those classic humbuckers. In order to ensure that elusive tone of the originals, the ProBuckers utilize the same materials as the originals such as 18% Nickel Silver Unit bases and covers, Sand cast Alnico II magnets, and high-quality 4-conductor lead wire. Both pickups are also vacuum wax potted to eliminate microphonics.

The pickups are wired through a classic control layout that consists of a 3-way toggle with an ivory-colored cap and independent volume & tone control knobs for each pickup. Providing you with an extensive sonic palette, the volume control for each pickup features a push/pull pot that allows you to tap into single-coil tones on-the-fly. The Vol and Tone controls sport Top Hat knobs with metal inserts, and are spaced slightly father apart than a typical archtop.

The Epiphone Joe Pass Emperor-II PRO comes fitted with premium gold-plated nickel hardware including a set of Grover Rotomatic tuning machines with an 18:1 ratio for fast, intuitive, and worry-free tuning. This attractive package is completed by  a floating rosewood with thumbweels for easy, on-the-fly adjustments and a vintage-style scroll "trapeze" tailpiece inspired by vintage Kalamazoo-made archtops. Case sold separately.

All the right stuff.

I've never been a huge fan of Epiphone but I'm very pleased with this guitar. It's a very solid build and has all the right woods and parts. The spruce top gives it warmth and the maple sides and back give it clarity. The Pau Ferro fretboard is beautiful and plays very smooth and fast. The pickups sound just like they should and the 18:1 Grover tuners are excellent. The sound I'm getting out of the guitar is exactly what I was looking for.

Beautiful Epiphone Joe Pass Emperor II Pro

Received in perfect condition. Awesome price. Beautiful guitar. Will definitely shop Sam Ash again.

I would buy again and recommend this Epiphone

I have had various types of guitars both acoustic classical and dreadnoughts and solid body electric, but always wanted a nice hollow-body Jazz guitar. I just couldn't justify purchasing a real high-end axe. I started my search on the internet for a reasonably priced model and saw a YouTube demo of the Emperor-II Pro. I liked what I saw and heard and so I searched various online stores and vendors. A friend of mine is one of Gibson's authorized repair luthiers and a custom guitar makers who I have always had set the action on all of my classical / Spanish models and so I asked his opinion before putting my money down on this model. I sent him a link of the model and based on his opinion I purchased it and I am glad I did. I have nerve issues in my left hand and arm and need adjustment done on my guitars to make them playable for me. But to my amazement the action on this guitar was spot on and so easy to play. Barre cords on some makes and models are sometimes painful, but not on this Joe Pass model. As for fit and finish and sound, it stands up to some of the more higher-end ones out there. And the price was just right. The sales representative was fantastic and he offered me a discount too (Black Friday Special). If a friend were to ask me what to get in a moderately priced Jazz hollow-body, I would not hesitate to suggest this guitar to them.

Beautiful and versatile

Love this guitar... so nicely made. Capable of just about any playing style; this guitar is my jazz box and bebop special. Clear warm tones from this hollow body. No issues, setup was perfect out of the box. Installed a set of Dadario half rounds to start with.

Good guitar, better customer service

Haven't fully put the guitar through its paces yet, but wanted to praise the customer service side of things. helpful, delivery quick, matched a competitor's price and then followed up to make sure that everything was in order. Quite a different experience than with a competitor of theirs.
