The D-55 was originally introduced nearly five decades ago as a premium special-order item, and by 1974, Guild incorporated it into their standard lineup since players seemed to really love it. Today, Guild brings back this legendary upscale Dreadnought model in all its glory with today's incarnation of the D-55. Today's version offers the perfect blend of classic and contemporary build while showcasing plenty of old-school adornments, creating a truly exceptional instrument that'll be up to the standards of any professional guitarist. An authentic nitro lacquer finish in natural ties together this attractive re-creation.

Traditional Build with Modern Refinements
Just as the original model introduced in 1968, this USA D-55 is crafted using a grade-AAA Sitka spuce top and solid Indian rosewood back & sides for a rich, deep voice along with an ebony fretboard & bridge. Making this latest version one of the greatest-sounding, most sonically powerful, and lightest yet, this D-55 employs contemporary refinements including scalloped Adirondack spruce bracing along with an improved hand-fit dovetail neck joint.

A Nod to Guild's Past
For this traditionally-appointed Dreadnought, a figured ebony overlay adorned with Guild's iconic "Peak and Shield" inlay graces the classic Guild bound headstock. The ebony fingerboard is also bound and boasts those signature elegant abalone/pearl "V-Blocks" inlays and multi-line "railroad track" purflings along the bass and treble edges.

Nothing Quite Like Nitro
When it comes to finishes, most guitar players know that there's nothing quite like nitrocellulose lacquer. Not only is it an authentic feature used on some of the most sought-after instruments of yesteryear, but this type of finish allows the wood to breathe for maximum resonance and a broken-in sound that'll only get better as time goes on. This USA D-55 features a thin, hand-sprayed nitrocellulose lacquer finish in beautiful Natural.

Great guitar that is worth all its money

the sound with a lot of detail, sustain and balance I doubted for a long time before I bought my D55 E but now that I have it I wonder why I waited so long. Costs some money but the return of the instrument is already worth that money.
