I bought this banjo from SamAsh recently. I live in an area that doesn't have any music stores around so I bought online sight unseen. I play mostly Clawhammer style and sometimes two finger old style. I heard this instrument on youtube being played and liked the sound of the 12 in. pot. When I received the banjo, it was set up fairly well but I did check the tightness of the neck and head and all the nuts, overall the initial set up was pretty good. The neck on this banjo is a little wider than on traditional banjos, which is good fore clawhammer style playing, but once you get accustomed to playing on it, it really is a joy to play. The guitar tuners hold tune very well, I have no complaints there. It has a glossy finish and looks quite handsome. The frailing scoop in my opinion could be just a little deeper, but this one works ok. I guess the only thing that should have been done to make this banjo outstanding would to recess the hooks in the rim and give it a cleaner hi-dollar look. The flat hooks could be of just a little better quality, but these are doing the job. The neck is very playable and fast, ergonomics are good and the 12 in. pot gives a little more bass sound for that old time sound. Overall, I like this banjo, I have Deering Vega Little Wonder, Deering "Special" and a Deering "Classic", banjos, but this is the banjo I play the most. When I received the banjo, it was missing the arm rest. I contacted SamAsh Music and they went out of their way to correct the problem, and I had a new arm rest in the mail in no time. They were great to deal with, great people and service.
