I have taught Voice for many years and have a Masters degree in music from the University of Michigan. Over the years I have found this book to be most worth the money in regards to all it renders my students. The phonetics of the Italian vowels, the literal translation of the Italian at the bottom of each page, help. Love that the various intervals are addressed one page at a time in songs - invaluable alone -but it also provides the proper way to stay on the vowel until the consonants - which then come all together - uniquely written out "For Bel Canto singing. Lastly, it provides great understanding of appoggiaturas, rhythm work, etc. And on top of all that it sells at for a reasonable price! A nice break when preparing for NYSSMA (State competitions) from the usual sight reading exercises which I also use. It's unusual to find such short Italian songs for beginners, that are also a great choice for advanced students! Though they are meant to be exercises I've even had students include them in recitals along with a contrasting song in English. Comes in high soprano and soprano as well.
