For most guitars, you just don't see the words "affordable" and "U.S.-made" in the same sentence very often. But Fender has changed all of that with the American Special Telecaster. They call the American Special Series "guitars for the times," and they mean it. The American Special Telecaster really does have everything you're looking for in a Tele—including a price tag that's within your reach. It's a real American-made Tele, all the way. With all that classic Tele vibe, bumped into the 21st century with all kinds of smart modern touches.

Now players at all levels can enjoy an American-made Fender-quality Tele at a truly amazing value. The American Special Telecaster blends time-tested Tele design with contemporary features that are sure to satisfy today's modern player. The body of the American Special Telecaster is crafted from alder and features a shimmering gloss urethane finish and a bolt-on neck construction. Contemporary playability and exceptional fretting-hand comfort are provided by the satin-finished Modern "C" maple neck and the modern 9.5"-radius fingerboard with jumbo frets.

Whether you play blues, country, rock, and everything in between, a pair of single-coil Texas Special pickups are sure to deliver. Especially great for big SRV-style Texas-blues tone, the Texas Special pickups are over-wound and dish out dynamically scorching output. Featuring alnico 5 magnets, enamel-coated magnet wire, and staggered pole pieces, these pickups serve up tight lows, shimmering highs, and a well-focused midrange with incredible balance from E to e. The control layout consists of a classic 3-way pickup selector switch, a Master Tone control, and a Master Volume control. For modern versatility, the Greasebucket tone circuit allows you to roll off on the highs without adding bass.

The Fender American Special Telecaster comes equipped with all-chrome hardware, which includes a set of Fender Standard Cast/Sealed tuners along with a 3-saddle American Vintage string-through-body Tele bridge with brass saddles for classic style and tone. Includes gig bag.

Quality for a Lower Price

I was looking for a guitar that had good quality and had a decent price. As i was scrolling through the different guitars online i found this one. I was astonished that They made an American made tele that was more affordable. This instrument Sounds great for it's price, especially with the Texas Special Pickups. The colors that it comes in are not too bad ether.

Highly recommended

Love the Fender American special. The quality is amazing. I went with the special instead of a professional cause of the modern neck and seriously who wants to pay 500USD extra for a hard case and a minor pickup upgrade. My only issue was with the guitar setup when I got it, that's why the 4 stars. The action was horrible and there was a buzzing sound from the high e string. I understand it was shipped and needed to be set up again but the setup could have been better. Othervise, no isses

Once in a while, you come across a particular guitar that exemplifies a model you've played what seems like a few million times—one that rises above the others of its kind and truly enchants you. This Telecaster was one of those instruments. The tone was true to the Tele twang and honk, but had an impressive sting to it that was very easy on the ears. The low end was quick and tight, and the midrange was surprisingly smooth for a stock bridge pickup. Telecasters rule< and this one stands above!

The real deal

I have been playing guitar for over 40 years, have played in numerous bands over the years, and have owned many electric guitars, and had the chance to hear & play quite a few high end instruments that band-mates have owned. I have owned an American Standard Strat for a few years now, so have a pretty good basis for comparison. With few exceptions, this guitar is every bit as good as the standard (now professional), and at a price I think is more acceptable for a bolt-on neck guitar. I love the satin neck (my Strat has the satin back, gloss fret board), and the pickups deliver that classic hot Tele tone that is perfect for a lot of classic rock. The only negative I can add, if you consider it a negative, is that the guitar will probably need a good set up when you get it. Sam Ash does not touch the guitars between the time they are received and shipped out, so you are getting it just as it left the factory. In my case, the guitar definitely needed some set up. I'm not sure that is necessarily a knock on Fender, as it did travel from the factory to the Sam Ash warehouse in FL, to my home in VA, so there is a lot of travel time and climate change in there. Then again, maybe that is one of the things you give up in going with the lowest price American made Fender. Regardless, once properly set up this is a great guitar, if you want the classic Tele sound and feel and only want to spend around a grand, this is the one to have.

American Special Tele is the real thing

I avoided Telecasters for many years as I am not a "country" player. Once I finally got around to playing them I was instantly hooked. The American Special is one of my favorites. The brass saddles are an important part of this guitars tone. Between that and the Texas Special pickups the guitar is capable of great blues and rock tones. I especially like the traditional body shape (without the "tummy cut" of the newer Standards). Some don't like the jumbo frets, but I don't see any drawback to them. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the satin finish neck. I prefer a gloss finish neck, but I'll happily accept this guitar the way it is. If you want an American Telecaster with a lower price, get one of these!

Great Job, Fender !

I have been playing guitar for 33 years and have owned many electrics.Fenders and Gibsons mostly.I know a little about what makes a quality guitar and I can honestly say that this guitar is as good as the american standard. If jumbo frets don't bother you, then pick this one over the amer. standard and save a few dollars.
