One of the cooler body styles in rock, the Gibson Explorer has aesthetics with attitude, and sound to match. Featuring a mahogany explorer build, Gibson designer specs, and dual Burstbucker pickups, this classic Gibson model is great for the player that likes to stand out from the pack.

Mahogany Explorer Build
First debuting in 1958 with its brother the Flying V, the Explorer stood out in the guitar world. Decades later, it still does. This edgy guitar has a body built from mahogany, topped with a shapely pickguard following the angles of the bottom right corner. The finish is gloss nitrocellulose lacquer. The neck is also mahogany, cut into slim taper profile, with a 1.695" nut width and a 24.75" scale length.

Gibson Designer Specs
The Explorer has an unrivaled brashness that suits all matters of music, from blues to metal. Each aspect is designed to make it feel and play great. There's a rosewood fretboard for a nice dark wood look and smooth feel. It's got 22 medium jumbo frets, acrylic dot inlays, and a Graph Tech nut. The headstock sports Grover Mini Rotomatic tuners while the bridge is a Nashville Tune-O-Matic with stop bar tailpiece. Throw in speed knobs and you've got one heck of an axe.

Dual Burstbucker Pickups
The dual covered humbuckers are an excellent fit for the style and vibe of the Explorer. Outfitted with a Burstbucker 2 at the neck and a Burstbucker 3 at the bridge, you can swap between the two or use both simultaneously with the three-way toggle switch. The Explorer also has 2 volumes and 1 tone.

Hot pickups, fast neck and HUGE

Excellent guitar. Fast neck and a hot bridge pickup. Quality all around. I was surprised at how HUGE it is. Easy to bump around and ding up. Put a dent on my ceiling taking it off (using a strap). Luckily the headstock is fine. Super fun to play.

Wonderful guitar, but a pain in the bum with that case!

I'll keep this short: 1. Neck is just a bit thick- If you've owned an Epiphone, it's almost the same. Fretboard is shred friendly. 2. They're not lying when they tell you it's light and well balanced. Not heavy at all. 3. Burstbucker pickups have a really nice "attack" to them. Wether it's blues / hard rock / metal, this guitar legit provides so much darn versatility. 4. Of course build quality is great, but the looks though: There's just something about it's design that can justify it showing up to every occasion. Yes, it can Djent. Yes, it can Jazz. That hard case is a nightmare to lug around, body builder or not. That's my only beef with this guitar. It's incredible for it's price tag, and if you're interested. Save for this thing. It's worth it!

Best bang for the buck Gibson!

This the proverbial "Rock Stick"! I play a Les Paul Traditional as my main axe, and and this thing has all of the sustain of that guitar, and has that bite that you imagine it has. Very very playable neck, bar chords are also super easy to slide up and down the neck. Pickups are hot! I could see this becoming my main squeeze...

I sure will would buy this again

Just this guitar was amazed when i opened up the case just beautiful the fell and sound is amazing

A true value and one of the most perfect designs ever!

I have been playing since 1982 my first Axe was a ..... Gibson Sonex! LOL but I thought I was the you know, I had a Gibson after all. I spent the 80's going through 25 ibanezs', Deans and Washburns,,,, i wish i had kept. regardless THE best guitar I bought at that time was a 1984 Arctic White Explorer which I still have. What has always driven me crazy was the stamped logo and not inlaid! I had a chance to replace it with an inlaid one and decided to leave it. It is exactly Like Hetfields main axe back then, you know when Metallica was a rockin band and not... nevermind. the people who get it understand. The Explorer being it was a production guitar in 1958/59 blew me away as it is one of the most balanced, light weight and made for rockin.Ted McCarty's masterpiece. I recently ordered one that had bad QC issues but Gibson made it right. YOU CAN NEVER GO WRONG BUYING an EXPLORER. Rock on!!!
