I purchased this as a counterpart to my 5150iii 50w head, the first tube amp I have ever owned. My knowledge with cabinets is a little limited, being a solid state / Line 6 user until now, so take this with a grain of salt if you are a long time tube user. I am also a bedroom player, so I don't typically get a chance to fully "open it up." With that being said, to my ears this thing sounds pretty amazing, and I know that I am still going through speaker break-in, so I am sure it is going to sound even better as time goes on. I bought this instead of the 2x12 because as a bedroom player, this is more than I will EVER need, let alone a 2x12. It's L O U D. Ungodly loud. "More-than-you-expect-loud," LOUD type loud. However, it retains extreme clarity for every note you pick. Dynamics come through really, really well. As I play through this thing, I am thinking to myself, "THIS is what / sound like." If you have the 5150iii and are looking for a great cab to match it with, look no further than the one that was designed for it. The only con: this thing took forever to find in stock. I was checking every single retailer on an almost daily basis, waiting for these to come in. My guess is that most people are going to buy the 2x12, instead of this one, so Fender / EVH put a priority on building those instead. Just be patient - your patience WILL be rewarded.
