Epiphone continues its historic Masterbilt series with the Epiphone Masterbilt AJ-45ME Acoustic/Electric. The legendary J-45 round shoulder dreadnought has been the driving power behind decades of classics in every genre - rock, pop, and country. From Hank Williams to John Lennon the "J-45" has been the go-to guitar for songwriters and rhythm guitarists. Epiphone's first Ltd. Ed. reissue of the "The Workhorse" J-45 earned it a "Mark of Excellence Award" from Guitar One magazine and now the Masterbilt AJ-45ME Acoustic/Electric brings two legends together for the first time!

First released in June 1931, the original line of Epiphone Masterbilt guitars made a big impression on musicians and heralded the first great era of acoustic guitars. Today, the new line of Epiphone Masterbilt instruments continues that reputation around the world. The original Epiphone Masterbilt catalog made the promise: "The possessor of an EPIPHONE instrument has the assurance that every possible precaution has been taken to build instruments for lifetime performance and pleasure." And Epiphone still stands by that promise today!

As with all Masterbilts, the Masterbilt AJ-45ME Acoustic/Electric is an ALL SOLID WOOD instrument featuring a solid Sitka Spruce top finished in a Vintage Sunburst Satin finish. The top is supported by hand-scalloped Sitka Spruce braces and is set off by Mahogany kerfing along with a Rosewood bridge and a bone saddle. One of the great attributes of a Sitka Spruce top is that it gets better with age - and playing time - so play your AJ-45ME a lot! The AJ-45ME’s historic sloped jumbo shape contributes to the guitar’s mighty tone, booming bass, and mid-range projection. The Rosewood bridge features a vintage classic 1.69" bone nut and the top has 5-ply binding and a tortoise style pickguard.

The Epiphone Masterbilt AJ-45ME has solid Mahogany back and sides, just like revered vintage models. The hand-shaped neck is also made from solid mahogany with a 1-piece heel. The neck is attached to the body with a dovetail joint and hide glue, and the neck has a standard 24.75" scale. Like all Masterbilts, the neck has a classic SlimTaperTM D profile. The pAU fERRO fingerboard features pearloid dot inlays, a 14" radius, and 20 medium jumbo frets.

While the AJ-45ME sounds great "unplugged", it really comes alive when plugged-in with the superb Fishman Sonitone preamp and Fishman Sonicore pickup system. Fishman is an industry leader in bringing a guitar’s true acoustic tone to bigger stages. The Sonicore pickup is set underneath the rosewood saddle. The Sonitone sound-hole preamp is an active preamp mounted in the soundhole with easy-to-access mounted rotary controls for Master Volume and Tone adjustment. Now you can make your adjustments during soundcheck and even fine adjustments on-the-fly during your set. No more running back and forth to your amp or the soundboard!  Finally, your tone is in your hands right where you need it. The active preamp is powered by a single 9-volt battery. You can connect your Epiphone AJ-45ME Acoustic/Electric to a PA or amp of your choice with a standard 1/4" instrument cable. Batteries typically last up to 100 hours.

The Epiphone Masterbilt 2015 AJ-45ME Acoustic/Electric features Epiphone’s quality nickel hardware and stays in-tune thanks to world famous Grover Sta-Tite machine heads with a pro-level 18:1 tuning ratio.

Epiphone Masterbilt quality speaks for itself and has for over half a century. Every instrument made at the "House of Stathopoulo" is backed by Epiphone's Limited Lifetime Warranty and Gibson 24/7/365 Customer Service.

EXCELLENT DREADNOUGHT

5

I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A FAN OF SLOPE-SHOULDERED DREADNOUGHT GUITARS, AND THIS IS AN EXCELLENT EXAMPLE. THE BUILD QUALITY IS SHOCKINGLY GOOD AT THIS PRICE POINT. THE BRACING IS DONE BY HAND, AS IS THE NECK SET, AND IT SHOWS IN THE TONE. ALL OF THE POWER ONE WOULD EXPECT FROM A DREADNOUGHT, WITH EXCEPTIONAL CLARITY AND NOTE TO NOTE DEFINITION. WELL DONE, EPIPHONE.

I bought one of these at the Sam Ash Edison store. I have been looking at it for about 2 yrs and decided to finally buy it. The only bad thing I can say is that Epiphone cheaped out bridge pins. I changed them with the Tusq pins and boy what a difference. This guitar now sings!! You wont be disappointed!!!

Bold and warm sound!

I was really taken with the overall build quality, fit and finish of this guitar, but really surprised when I played it! Strummed chords really project but aren't harsh at all, very nice warm and balanced tone! Playing leads / melodies was very easy and smooth, and the fingerpicking / fingerstyle was excellent! You owe it to yourself to check these out!

Favorite Guitar

If you are a brand snob, then this may not be the guitar for you. However, if you are seeking an awesome sounding, all wood guitar then THIS IS THE GUITAR! I compared the AJ45 to its counterpart the Gibson J45 and the Epi sounds better and plays easier in my opinion. It is my understanding that the electronics on the Epiphone are not as popular as the ones on the Gibson, but I've never used the electronics on any of my acoustic guitars so it was not a deciding factor for me. This is just a great all around guitar. Give this guitar a try and you may be pleasantly surprised. Didn't think I would ever find anything I would like better than my Martin, but haven't played it since I got the Epi.

Great guitar

I've owned Gibsons and I've owned Martin. But I cannot say enough about this guitar. I purchased my AJ45ME in November 16 and I honestly have been playing it more than my Gibson J15. The J15 is a absolutely fabulous guitar too, but this Epi simply blows me away. It's a canon with tone that rivals the J45's I have played. The setup out of the box is the best I have ever seen. Cant say enough about this Epiphone.
