Let me say this up front, Tony Iommi is the guy who made me first want to play guitar so this axe is a dream come true! Cosmetic: Perfect, they nailed the crosses and all other inlays. The finish is beautiful (none more black!) Setup: Out of the box it was not setup at all, had a buzzing A string, and the nut that holds the bridge pickup volume knob was totally loose. All easily fixable if you know your way around a guitar...but the buzzing would be especially frustrating to a player not yet comfortable changing their own setup. Pickups: Outstanding! First thing I did was change my strings to similar gauges Tony uses for his downtuned C# tuning (42-32-22w-12-9-9). Even using such a light string gauge set these high output pickups still scream. Hardware: Another thing that drops the rating to 4 instead of 5 stars. I hated the tuners...they felt light and sloppy and with downtuning such light gauges to C# I wanted tuners that were solid and accurate. I replaced them with Gotoh locking tuners and it feels great now. Certificate of Authenticity: This is very cool and comes in a fancy folding cover. Signed by Tony and the president of Epiphone. Limited Edition? Well, originally in 2015 Epi advertised this as a limited edition run of 2000 (250 lefties). After checking my serial number it was built in August of 2019 and had a serial number much higher than 2,000. I think it's an accepted fact among Epiphone SG players that this was a very popular instrument and Epi made a lot more than 2,000 since 2015. I'd be happy if someone could prove me wrong, but I'm pretty sure on this. Personally, I don't care if they made 2,000 or 200,000, I love this guitar! Conclusion: If you're into Tony Iommi and want to get as close as possible to his sound, this is a fantastic guitar. If you're not an Iommi fan but still want a downtuned doom metal machine, this also fits that bill!
