The G-400 PRO honors the original 1960s classic "SG" (Solid Guitar) and features Alnico Classic PRO humbuckers with push/pull coil-splitting plus Wilkinson Vintage Classic Machine Heads.

Classic 60s Era "Solid Guitar"
The modern G-400 PRO is inspired by the first generation of SGs made in the 1960s at the legendary Gibson and Epiphone factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan that produced the Les Paul and the Casino. The SG model was originally intended to replace the Les Paul, which temporarily went out of production from 1961-1968. The G-400 PRO is constructed using the same dimensions and build techniques as vintage SGs and features a mahogany body and neck with a comfortable 1960's SlimTaper "D" profile and a 24.75" scale length. The pau ferro fingerboard has pearloid Trapezoid inlays, 22 medium jumbo frets, a 12" radius, and an adjustable truss rod with a "bell" cover.

Alnico Classic PRO Humbuckers with Coil Splitting
The G-400 PRO features Alnico Classic PRO humbuckers made with Alnico-V magnets, which produce a slightly higher output especially in the mids and highs. Each pickup has it own Volume and Tone control with full-size 500K potentiometers matched with Epiphone's rugged, all-metal, 3-way toggle pickup selector switch for long-lasting performance. Each pickup also is wired for coil-tapping. By pulling up the pickup's volume knob, the humbucker will become a "single-coil" pickup, allowing players an infinite variety of tones from single-coil bark to full humbucker bite. When winding humbuckers, Epiphone utilizes a double vacuum waxing process that ensures quiet operation free from microphonic hum. The pickup is first placed in the specialized wax vacuuming system before the cover is placed on the unit to ensure that the wax fully penetrates to the very center of the pickup and solidifies all parts. After the cover is placed on, it is again given a second vacuum wax bath until the unit is completely saturated with wax. Epiphone also uses high quality ABS plastic bobbins, 1010 Cold Rolled Steel pole shoes and pole screws, the finest magnet wire available.

Solid Epiphone Hardware
The G-400 PRO features Epiphone's legendary LockTone bridge and Stopbar tailpiece for incredible sustain along with Wilkinson Vintage Classic Machine Heads with a 18:1 tuning ratio.

What a Beauty!!!

I have played bass guitar for decades. Recently I decided to start learning 6-string guitar and I just couldn't resist the alpine white Epiphone SG 400. I'm amazed at how this guitar sounds, how well it plays and yes, looks count. There are so many choices, but since I already own an Epiphone Thunderbird Vintage Pro Bass, I knew this would be a spectacular rock machine. It is! For Class A+ service, look up Jordan Kellogg.

for sure

Totally surprised at the Fit , Finish and quality for such an economically priced guitar . I was in the market for a Gibson SG ( wanted one my whole life ) when my buddy's told me to try the SG with a Strap to see if I'm OK with the Neck Dive associated with the "SG" type guitars . Since I didn't have one handy to try so I looked up SamAsh Direct and bought a lower priced Epiphone G400 Pro just in case I didn't like the neck dive I wouldn't have 1499.00 dollars tied up in a guitar I might not likebut as it turns out a Suede Strap is all that was needed to make this G400 Pro comfortable and the fit and finish is real nice so for the moment I have stopped my search for a Gibson because I'm totally happy with the G400 Pro and strongly recommend it for anybody on a budget

Lives up to the hype

Read many, many online reviews. Played on at SA in Phoenix, where they had a great selection. I wanted separate volume and tone control, and with the coil splitting, you can get a bit of Strat "sass". The neck just seems a bit roomier than a Fender neck for my non-slender fingers. I love the neck binding for the comfort, and liked the setup, intonation and overall quality. It has only been a week, but after several jams, I am quite happy with this ax. A minor quirk is the cable protruding out from the body, vs. being on the edge of the body, out of the way. A right angle cable will help. My plan was to play one in-store, and then order online from a non-tax site. However the Sam Ash representative put together a most compelling deal. I would advise anyone, if not for the simple benefit of playing the instrument before buying, to visit SA in person if possible.

Exactly what I expected

As a total beginner, I needed a beginner guitar (which I consider this to be). The finish and appearance is flawless. The action and setup seem to be very good. Just a tune and it was ready to go. I thought the packaging was a bit on the minimal side (double cardboard box's) with some minor crushes on the corners, but the contents nonetheless showed up with no damage. I ordered online, because I had a little difficulty getting information and help at the store (in person, phone, and email). Bottom line, very satisfied with the guitar. A great instrument, especially for the price.

Solid gigging guitar for peanuts

I make my living as a freelance musician, have owned guitars from high-end to dirt cheap, and this little SG is impressive. We are truly living in the "Golden Age of Cheap Instruments." To spare my good archtop the hazards of cramped bandstands, etc, I got this as a multipurpose electric favoring the jazz side and it never disappoints. In fact it feels more solidly built than the '68 Gibson SG Standard I used to have. The SG is a very underrated jazz guitar, way better than a Les Paul because of the lighter build. The pickups are nice and hot with enough highs to avoid muddiness - the 500K pots help. The slim neck feels great - at the moment this guitar is my fastest player. I can take it anywhere, through any amp, and I know it will sound great. Just two issues: One is with the overly thick finish, typical of budget Asian imports. But nobody but guitar people will notice this - certainly not clients and audiences. The other is that the pickups don't seem very useful in single-coil mode; dramatically weaker and very shrill. However, here's a sound tip for anyone reading this: If you like the "in between" pickup setting on a Strat, you can get it on this guitar by tapping out the bridge pickup in combination with the neck pup in humbucking mode. With careful blending It is as dry and bell-like as you could wish. Think Sultans of Swing. This guitar was on sale as "used, as new." In fact I would rate the condition as just-out-of-the-box pristine! As an added bonus it arrived on my doorstep two days after being ordered, over a week ahead of schedule (and just in time for a demanding gig.) Thanks to Sam Ash for a wonderful product and great service! #sweepstakes

A great guitar for an awesome price

Bought an Epiphany G400 Pro in LN condition. I was surprised that I could not tell if the guitar had been handled by anyone before, condition brand new, all stickers on it. Waiting for a good sale to upgrade my amp to take advantage of this wonderful instrument.
