Makes it sing
I never bought into the fetish for the JRC4558 chip, nor the endless arcane Tube Screamer folklore. Having said that, this is a very good, relatively inexpensive drive. It gooses the 6SL7 based front end of my amp, adding a nice dose of grit, while not screwing with the lovely wide harmonic range of this big bottle, octal base honey. I would recommend it for anything without a master volume, especially any old Ampeg, Tweed or Blackface design. You get a lot for the price.

The East River Drive is a compact and versatile overdrive pedal. Ranging in tones from subtle to gritty, this is a great blues-y overdrive, in the same vein as the Boss BD-2, but with a bit more character.
EHX East River Drive If you're looking for a classic overdrive pedal for Blues, Rock, Alternative, & Grunge (not Metal), this is the pedal for you! The quality of the overdrive is fantastic and it delivers a smooth, sweet sound! - This pedal maintains your guitar's tone. Also, the tone knob makes significant difference in your tone. - It's versatile. There are three knobs (volume, tone, & drive), all are responsive. Playing around with these knobs really changes your sound. The drive knob drastically changes your overdrive from clean to gritty & raw!!! (it doesn't go as high as high-gain/metal) - Loads of sweet spots - Cheap - Durable. Made in America. Metal casing & switch. You could murder someone with this and it would still work.
