Epiphone presents the Mayfair 5-String Banjo, a recreation of the historic first generation masterpiece from the 1920s that helped to make the "House of Stathopoulo" one of the premier instrument makers in New York and around the world.  Featuring a Mahogany Resonator with historic Mayfair inlay design, Mahogany Neck, traditional headstock design, and Remo head.

In the 1920s, Epiphone's founder Epi Stathopoulo worked hard to bring the Stathopoulo family business into the thriving musical world of Manhattan. Jazz was the defining music of the time and prior to the introduction of the Epiphone Masterbilt guitar series, the banjo was the main rhythm instrument of jazz bands. Thanks to Epi Stathopoulo's many banjo patents and his keen sense of design, Epiphone's new line of modern banjos quickly became the industry standard, respected for their full tonal range, great intonation, craftsmanship, and ornate designs.

The Mayfair 5-String Banjo has the familiar 5-string profile but with the classic Epiphone detail that made the "House of Stathopoulo" the premier banjo maker of its day. The Mayfair features a Mahogany Resonator with the historic Mayfair banner design in pearloid, blue, red and surrounded by period-correct pearloid binding.  On the front is a nickel armrest and an industry standard Remo head which provides maximum volume and tone along with a hard Maple bridge with an Ebony cap, and a traditional "clamshell" design tailpiece.

The mahogany neck has single layer binding and a traditional "C" shape with dual coordinator rods for full and even intonation everywhere on the neck. The Rosewood fingerboard has 22 frets and traditional Epiphone "Snowflake" fingerboard inlay with the historic "Epiphone" logo at the end of the fingerboard. The headstock has traditional Epiphone banjo tuners as well as an 1920s style headstock profile with a perfect recreation of the era's Mayfair logo in pearloid, red, and green and the iconic Epiphone banner logo in black and gold. An optional hard case is available.

Mayfair Banjo

I wanted to lean the banjo I went to SamAsh and purchased a Mayfair banjo off the rack. David assisted me when getting home I had difficulty tuning it and noticed the bridge was off center. I contacted David and SamAsh agreed to get me a new one in the box. After a week it arrived I picked it up. When unboxing it at home, I found that the tuning head was complete broken off the banjo. I returned it to the store and they said they would order me another one as sometimes they break in shipping. Rather than wait another week for a new one I decided to trade it for another banjo they had in stock hanging on the wall. After getting that banjo home I found the banjo wound not tune as the tuning keys would swivel and not maintain a position. That banjo would not tune at all and sounded terrible. So I went back to the store a third time and ultimately ended up taking the original banjo I had. With the help of the store staff they were able to straighten the bridge on my original banjo and tune it and I was able to finally get it home. I am now enjoying practicing every day. I commend the store personnel for their patience and commitment to customer satisfaction. They were all very helpful. I would give David and other employees at the guitar/banjo section a 10 out of 10. Thank you Sam Ash at San Antonio!!
